Popping Guitar

I'm currently recording with a telecaster and super-light strings into a PODxt. When I use low distortion amp models I’m getting a "popping" sound, which is another way of saying that there's far too much punch. Basically, the very first frame comes in at a certain level, then the very next frame drops about 7dB's, and it's quite annoying. And I can't compress it out because the attack drops off too fast. Any suggestions? I figured it might be the strings... maybe medium gauge would be better?

Thanks!

The limiter helps... but there is still a "flicking" in the attack. Does string guage affect that sort of thing? Will the heavy stuff get rid of some dynamics?

It would help I think if you could post a short sample of the sound your talking about, and also what gauge strings your using. Less than 10's and that may very well be your problem, they require a very light touch, but 10's and up shouldn't be causing any problems string wise.

I'd try and turn off all compressor, NS, limiter, etc to see if that's what's causing it. Maybe there's a threshold set somewhere that your signal is confusing.

(just thinking out loud)
