anyone into the band Morphine?
these cats are one of my personal favs.
3 piece band
singer/bass (two string with a slide)
sax (alto and tennor, sometimes both at once)
and drums
pure minimalist genious!! Mark Sandman died in '99 and i really think these guys never got the recognition they deserved...cept for a few songs in movie soundtracks "Wild Things" comes to mind.
anyway i'm listenin' to them now and it saddens me that i will never get to see them live.

Mar 29, 2005 01:52 pm "Do not go quietly unto your grave." Is one of my favorite songs... and yeah, very original stuff, but the term 'minimalist genious' bring the band Bauhaus to mind as well... especially with those 'dry as the desert' mixes they have... they're like the gothic Police, or sumpin' .
Mar 29, 2005 01:58 pm OOoooOo i'm gonna check into them today!
sounds interesting.

Mar 29, 2005 02:48 pm I love Morphine. Although I'm pretty sure that the saxophonist plays a Baritone sax as the low one, and I get the alto/tenor saxes mixed up.
Word on the street is that the singer had a heart attack on stage and was DOA at the hospital. What a way to go.
Cure for Pain is my favorite album of theirs. Matter of fact, I stole the melody from the solo that I submitted for Bleak's jam from a sax solo on Cure For Pain :-D
Mar 29, 2005 02:51 pm yeah he was on stage in Italy, you're right about the sax too. i made a awsome mix cd with 22 of my favs from 5 albums...

Mar 30, 2005 09:48 pm That singer for Morphine is Morrisy. He has one of the greatest voices for that kind of music. He was huge in the 80's as well.
And yes, the sax is a baritone. I saw them several times in concert. Very unique.
Bauhaus is great as well.
Mar 31, 2005 11:47 am mark sandman was the singer in morphine. not morrisey, i think your confusing some bands?!?
Mar 31, 2005 12:27 pm oh i've got quite a few Treat Her Right songs even some of the rare live stuff...bought Like Swimming, Good, Yes, The Night (d/l cure for pain, THR and live stuff)in that order. that's one band that has touched me in the way i save for very few artists (tool, floyd, zep, vangles) top of the top in my book. he's got a Music Education Fund here www.hi-n-dry.com/mark_sandman/music_education.html
