It's strange that a manual wasn't included with the program package.

I like to learn by doing, too, but you have to have someplace to start. Does the program at least come with a good tutorial?

It seems to me like pretty poor business practices to charge all that money for a software app, and not show the buyer how to use it.

Pirating software is wrong - it's ILLEGAL - but the sofware makers need to give us some incentives (other than that good feeling you get) for actually buying their products.

I'm speaking out of school, because I have never used Cubase. maybe they have great customer support. It just that I find more and more that the software I buy comes with less and less documentation.

I totally agree, when I buy a program of the depth and complexity of Cubase I want a friggin book! Thats why I like SOnar, the book is about over 600 pages, and well written!

That said, I do like to learn by doing, but you are right, ya need a good kick in the right direction at first sometimes, and Steinberg is doing themselves no favors by some of the crap they are doing...like this...

Not to be a jackass but the berg site has SHEDLOADS of stuff man...they do a QUICK START guide which is (yes wait for it) 200 count em 2 0 0 page fekin long!!! Thats a sure QUICK start huh!

They may do a manual, I dunno but they have good online help with the app anyway and its not that difficult to master...I also got a couple of cheap second hand books....nice.

Cubase rocks man

I know that Cubasis has a tutorial in it, but I don't think that Cubase does. I used SX for a while and it had a huge pdf manual with it, it had everything that I needed to know.

I can't imagine how much it adds to the cost of a piece of software if you have to bundle a 600-page book with it and pay shipping and packaging for that much more volume and weight. Not like cubase is exactly a bargain piece of software tho...

True, but then, thats what you are paying for. I don't want an online tutorial or help files, I want something I can take to the bathroom with me, take with me when I bring my daughter to dance class, take on the bus to work and that kind of thing...

Thanks everyone. The last part for me is the important bit. Yes, Ive got a great 1000 plus page PDF but my cubasis came with a 16 page quick start guide that you could read in the bath etc. It was this I was looking for.
There is a Quick start guide included but it is over 200 pages long. Oh well, thanks anyway

Coco - whats the berg site?

Actually at one time anybody could get on their FTP site and download documentation for any program they made. I liked that cause then I could read up on it before I actually had the money to buy it. Of course they took away that too.

The 'berg' site is www.steinberg.net

I personally found the online Manual (CSX2) very good but it's not the same as a hard copy for sure!
