...I mixed my first live show...Granted it was hip hop which wasn't hard but I went there to attend my clients show and ended up taking the control of the soundcheck, was then asked to mix the show...I was a little reluctant but I trusted my instincts and said the hell with it...

So I nosed in and ran the show's sound....7 hours, 6 acts, 40 bucks, lots of ear fatigue and a sore back from the bogus chair I was in but most of all the artists were happy with the way things sounded...

Thought it was cool just the fact that I was sorta of able to go from spectator to sound guy...lol

yeah i land alotta live gigs just cuz i'm fimillar with the gear and how to hook it up, i dont like to do it, but hey it's workin' with audio, so i'll never turn it down....i just hate the pressure of it. monitor mix's are key to a good performance...

Well, I was suprised I was gonna get paid at all...

I was back there for pleasure till my ears were gettin tired...

The show was an all hip hop show so mixing it wasn't hard. It was in North Branch...(yes it was way out there) run of the muck place called Battleshack...

An old theatre...but its was fun, like WYD said, it was messing with audio so I couldn't turn it down...

I dunno that I would do another...my head hurt after I got home and the rest of tommorrow...

Ear plugs are common sense to me believe it or not but two things factored in that night...

1. I basically was thrown into mix this thing...from what I hear the owner does a shitty job...So I was going as a spectator and didn't plan on being there thru the entirety...

2. I figure plugs would interfere with me trying to get an accurate mix...

thats just my view...

There are ear plugs designed for sound engineers and performers that cut down the db level equally across the spectrum. They are not the cheap disposable kind, but, if you plan to do it much, I highly recommend getting a pair.

i donno i can't immagine mixin' live without pluggs, i take them out for a few secs to check the high end, but for the most part, they help my ability to mix.

hey Jason, what groups were you working the board for?

I had a gig last thursday, and the sound guy was very, very good. After seeing what he does, I don't think I would have the confidence to try and pull it off.
