The 10 Songs of Christmass

Well its about time I share a little music with HRC. So I figured what better then sharing 10 Xmas songs I recorded and released 10 years ago. They are all instrumental pieces of Xmas standards, arranged by me, and performed by me. As you listen, if you are familier with Manhiem Steam Roller you may notice the similarity to Chip Davis style. I was very into New Age as well as Chip Davis at the time and it had a big influance on the way I arranged music.

My set-up then was simple, CakeWalk Pro Audio, Roland D-110, Alesis SR-16, DigiDesign SampleCell II, and my trusty Roland Juno 106, and a Casio CZ-1000. It is completely digital, and I am sure it shows.

You can follow this link to the page, and I will be putting up a 2 songs every 2 days till Xmass.
The page is hidden from public view so you will need to follow this link or save the page. I will only have these up till shortly after Xmass.

Enjoy, and have a Merry Christmass one and all, even tiny Tim

Really nice Noize, especially Upon a Midnight Clear, one of my favorites. You sure got a nice sound on both, and excellent arrangement. I'll be watching for the next 2. :)

It's funny to hear some of these digital sounds for christmas music. Sounds like metal snowflakes falling through the air.

But the arrangements are definitely nice. The new age influence comes through. But it's cool.

It's good to hear some music from you Noize.

Walt, I have never even thought about doing that tune. But now that you mention it I may take a crack at it. I am of the grinchy type as well when it comes to christmass, especially when there isnt any snow and Xmass is only a week away.

Thanx, OD and coolo. I will be popping 2 more up tommorrow afternoon sometime and will post here when they are up.

Oh ya, OD. I think you will like the arrangement for Away in a Manger. Its intro is a bit islandy, then goes generic, and back to the islands. I will be saving my favorite for last though, Joy to the World.

Oh and by the way guys. I really should have done a bit of retouching as those first two tracks are really limp. I am remastering them to give them a bit more life. I will Re-post them tommorrow with the new ones. I am quite sure you will hear a big differance. And all the new track will be re-touched as well.

Allrighty then, I had some time this morning and popped another two songs up. And the first two are also new files which have been re-mastered for better quality. So if you have allready downloaded the first two tracks you may want to replace them with the newer versions.

And yes I am aware of the oh so cheesy reverb artifacts that are in the first two tracks. I left it alone as I figured that is the way it was then. It adds kind of a wierd rythm to the pieces.

Enjoy, and the next two should be up Sunday or Monday evening.

Thanx Bleak. I think I had more imagination back then. Or maybe just less fear of turning things into what I wanted to hear.

Hehe, i like them Noize!! On this and another forum there's been a glut of postings this years, alternative workings of old classics. I love listening, keeps things really fresh.

Don't ya just love making music, the fact you can make Away In A Manger sound like the theme to Cagney & Lacey? (No offence meant with that remark).

Great productions my friend.

Thanx Nue, from you I take it as a comliment. Remember these were done 10 years ago as well, so thus the odd arrangements.

Anyway, there are 3 more tracks up, 5, 6 and 7. Use the same link as above. And the last 3 should be up by tommorrow night as well. I have saved the best for the final track, or at least I think so. It is Tuna's favorite of the 10 tracks, so maybe I am a bit partial.

Enjoy.

And as promised, the last 3 tracks are up in time for Xmass eve.

I will be leaving these up till after new years, then they will be coming down. So if you want to DL them you have about a week.

Happy Holidays,

Noize

Ah...thanks Noize...I enjoyed that...and these arrangements are ten years old? I like them a lot...and its all like...electronic?

Cheers,

Yep, ten years old they are. And yes all electronic, it was my first foray into composeing comletely electronicly. I wasnt very good at drum programing then and I think it shows on a couple of the tunes. Joy to the World was actually the first one finished, but it really fit well for the last track so that is were it ended up.

Anyway, glad ya liked em.

Blushing, twice!

Thanx BM. There were a few who liked em. I dont think very many got to listen as I didnt really start posting them til almost Xmass.

When I originally did them I had a short run made of about 500 CD's and they were sold in the cheapo section of a few department stores, and local record shops, as well as I got them in the cheapo racks at a few Super America stores which are just a little gas and grocery. Didnt make a whole lot on it but I wasnt really trying either. I think the craze over digital music like that is probably past its prime so I doubt I would do it again, or try and sell the CD again.

Hey Noize...did you do the visual too?...that is pretty cool...way cool!

I don't know Noize...I enjoy your music...its almost like classical the way it's layered...the harmonies in the brass...I think in 'Joy'...I liked that...liked plenty actually.

Cheers,

BM;-)

No, I had nothing to do with the visual part at all. Matter of fact is that they only gave me a sketch or time line to follow at a certain BPM with certain events or highlights to happen at certain times. I had no pictures of what it was exactly they were intending to do, only that it was for a car commercial. After seeing the finished product I knew why. They actually timed the cars movements to the music. I personally liked the little headbobbing thing it did, as well as when it flairs the fenders out of its shoulders. Nice touch I thought.

And thanx again for the compliments. As for the brass, ya I have a thing for layers of stuff and was really into the FM synth brass sounds back then.

Well...I would say...thats a pretty good job then...yeah...that dancing car is pretty cool...and they fit the actions to the song well...the nodding head is great and I like the different angles they shoot the dancing car from.

Citreon...sounds like a biggish account?

Cheers,

BM :-)

I actually got in through the film people that did the commercial. They used to have a US office as well but are now doing strictly overseas stuff. Loads of liquer commercials and such. I kind of fell into this one, lucky me, and didnt even know it was done untill I got the email and a check a day later.

I am hoping it will lead to more, but not gonna get real excited over it.
