If the harddrive is gone, put it in the freezer and let it get cold over night or so and you'll get about 20 to 30 minutes of life to pull stuff off of it.

I seen weird stuff happen to computers with power and such. When something happens with electricity to a PC, you can have weird issues and basically need a new PC by the time it's over with.

Tells us your issues Bleak and maybe we can help you out more to get you back going.

I had a palm pilot shock me when I went to get it out of its charging cradle. it shocked me 3 times, in the process it fried the cradle, my serial port, and my motherboard on my computer at the time.

Then, a couple years later, Palm sent out a mass mailing about a class action lawsuit against them for knowingly skimping on the anti-static stuff (whatever it was) in that particular model of palm pilot. Too bad I didn't have any surviving documentation of the unit, plus documentation that i had a certain kind of motherboard w/a certain kind of serial port...I'd trashed that mobo and all of the documentation when it blew up.

Oh well. Winter static sucks! Use Static Guard and get a central humidifier for your central climate control.

so its just static discharge, then? and it comes mostly from you building up a charge and then touching something connected to a computer? i heard that was a risk when installing new components but i guess i never knew it was a danger once she's all closed up.

I was just putting the connection for MIDI into the back of the Delta 1010lt. I know i should have turned the pc off and used a static glove but i have been ripping into the guts of PC's for years and never had a problem! Only takes once i guess :)

I used some software to see what could be recovered but as luck would have it the drive was actually physically damaged exactly in the sectors where my music data was !

I have since recieved a new (and better) drive and have just started the song again!

Cheers for the feed back

I must say i have never heard of putting a HD in the freezer! will remember that one!
