I just got done setting up our new (well used really) Alesis drum trigger kit. snare, hat w/pedal, 3 toms, kick and two cymbals running into an Alesis DM5. My 6 year old is beating on it right now and she loves 'em.
This is gonna be the beginning of a whole new era in my studio...

Sep 04, 2004 07:10 pm Nice one DB...sounds like fun.
I wish I could have some space for a real kit in ma own studio just so I could beat on it when Im in a foul mood!!!
But, nae space to be had as the wee Loft Bar was put in...kinda stupid I know but ya need a beer when ya make music!

Sep 04, 2004 07:21 pm Yup, everything works awesome and yes, Ben does rock, any business tht I don't do on the 'net I do thru him.
Just need to replace that one snare head and fix one cymbal...but I knew both of those issues when I bought it...
Ben rocks.

Sep 07, 2004 10:54 am How much did it all cost?
Sep 07, 2004 10:58 am Well, the owner is a buddy of mine, so I got a smokin' deal, well under $500 once I get the replacement head, that's about as specific as I will get.

Sep 07, 2004 12:24 pm hehehehe, I knew he'd show his ugly mug in here at some point.
Dude, these things rock...and the second cymbal is actually working for the moment, I got rack mounts made for the DM5 and some little speakers hooked up so I can use the cans or the speakers (Ashley hates the cans). If the other cymbal dies, it looked like I could pretty easily drill out the rivets and get into that trigger.
www.civilianband.com/handler.asp?pg=band is his last band (that I am aware of anyway), he's the hairball in the lower left corner behind the singer...only he's not a hairball any more...

Sep 11, 2004 01:14 am Got mine up as well about the same time. Trigger are the way to go. And after years of using old missmatched trigger's through my DM5 I now, thanx to Ben as well, have a nice matched set up. Snare, 4 toms, 2 crash, 1 ride, double kick's, HiHat w/ peddle control, and a couple trigger,s left over for aux. percussion. And he hooked me up with a nice TD-6 V-Drum brain and I like it almost as much as my DM5. But bummer is it is only 2 channels out, but if I get the kit sounds mixxed right that wont matter much.
vdale, you will definately like using trigger instead of programing or plining the beat in on a midi keyboard.

Sep 11, 2004 10:00 pm db! please post clips of that dm5. im dyin to hear it. hows are the bass drum sounds?
Sep 12, 2004 07:12 am hell, no mp3 is gonna do justice to a drum module, especially kicks, the lows and his are what mp3 messes with the most...go to your local store and give one a listen.

Sep 12, 2004 11:36 am Hey Noize, my V Tour Kit has the TD-6V drum module as well, it's a killer sounding unit. I agree it would have been nice to have multi outs, but so far it's working out pretty well. The V Tour has dual triggers on all pads and cymbals and the snare is the mesh head so it feels pretty close to a real snare. Ton's tweaks are available.

Sep 12, 2004 07:42 pm Heck ya OD. I am really liking it. I thought I had a good control set up to use in Sonar to get in and edit it all from the PC but alas I thin the download was a sour one. I need to go out and look for one again. Although it edits pretty sweet just from the front panel. Just a little slow for my tastes since I am so spoiled at being able to tweak all my gear via the PC.
Maybe I will just build a control panel in Sonar 2 and then I can open it in 3 and be all happy. Otherwise I will have to look for a decent editer. And ya, I like the sound even though it is just the stereo outputs. They just need to panned better then the factory settings. That is about my only beef about the unit. Other then the reverbs are cranked pretty high on alot of the kits. But hey, I just go in and turn it down.
And I also like the dual trigger inputs, that was a killer idea. As well as splitting the tom inputs on 5/6 and 7/8. That is killer as it allows a nice 4 tom set up with one aux pad for cowbell or whatever you choose.
But ya, it wont make me sell my DM5 anytime soon, even though it is some killer kits in there. I like their 808 and 909 kit for sure. Real true to the old school sounds of those drum synths.

Sep 13, 2004 02:09 am Yep, the main changes I've been making are in the panning, most of the factory presets seem to be a bit overboard on panning.
I'd just like to find a cheap or free simple midi program to record my playing so I can touch up the timing here and there when I'm playing, especially the kick. I've been trying a few that I've found but most either the UI is clumsy as heck making it difficult to work with, or I can't get it to work with period. Something like FL would have been ideal, but I can't figure out how to record them in FL. I'm not even sure FL really even suports recording midi other than single note at a time from what I can see.
I guess if Adobe doesn't get busy and support midi I'm gonna have to buy Sonar, sure would be much easier working in the same app.

Sep 13, 2004 09:38 pm I know the TD-6V has a built in sequancer to record your drum track into and it does have a quantize feature to help you get the drums in line. Not sure how well it works yet as I havent tried it but I would imagine it is pretty good.

Sep 14, 2004 01:13 am Yeah I've been playing around with the builtin sequencer and it seems to works pretty well, but I really only want to quantize the kick (I do alright till my leg starts getting tired <g>) and it's quantize function works on the whole mix.
I need to play around with getting Audition to sync to midi clock which it's supposed to do so I wouldn't have trouble sync'ing up the sequenced track to my existing songs, I'm redoing the drums on.

Sep 14, 2004 09:05 pm OD, when I get alittle spare time (laughs out loud) I will dig around a bit here. I think I have an app that was a freeby that might record just midi and do quantizing as well. I'll let ya know.
