Hey Dan,
just thought of an idea that might be cool for the site. It would be cool if home recording people had a place to do online collaborations on the hrc where they could swap song files and idea's. I know the server space deal would be a lot to deal with, but the projects might be kind of cool. :) any thoughts?

Jun 03, 2004 10:07 pm Yep, HRC Pro had a colab feature built into it allready. Works great too.

Jun 04, 2004 08:34 am Yes, I did implment a collaboration feature in HRC Pro. The server space is an issue for mp3 hosting and the collab feature (known as "The Virtual Studio") which is why I put it in the HRC Pro section. That way the people using the resources are the ones paying for them. It's the only fair way I could think of to do it.
When I have a stock hit it big and I become independently wealthy it will become part of the standard web site :-)

Jun 04, 2004 11:59 am ahh, very cool. When I come across some funding myself I may have to check out the Pro section in that case. :) I have collaborated with a few people before I came to the HRC and found it is easiest if everyone has their own server space to host files on when they are doing the upload thing. I am not sure if I am supposed to mention this on the site as you actually offer hosting on the site, but there is a company called idyia that is out of Canada that has very cheap hosting for space online and cheap domain registration for anyone that wants to get their own. :)
I've just mainly been looking for some projects to get myself more adapt into mixing and mastering stuff lately as I've become pretty comfortable with the mic techniques and selection. :) Anyone out there have anything they need mixed or mastered that I could get some practice with? :D
Jun 04, 2004 12:55 pm an idea related to the chatroom thing (which i still always find empty): what if members could see who's online and send them an instant message through some HRC IM system? like, you can see a list of logged-in people and then click on them to send them a message.
Jun 04, 2004 12:57 pm HRP Pro also has am private messaging feature that works between all Pro members.
Showing who is in the chatroom...hmmmm...not bad...

Jun 04, 2004 01:12 pm dB, before you changed the site last time, you used to be able to see how many people were visiting and who was logged in at the bottom of the page. I always thought that was cool.
Jun 04, 2004 01:12 pm OK, chatroom peeps are listed out on the front page under the forum and chatroom links.
So, I DARE anyone to tell me HRC doesn't listen to it's members!

Jun 04, 2004 01:14 pm that was pretty frickin quick
Jun 04, 2004 01:14 pm coolo, onfornately there are a few problems with that "whos online" thing.
1- to do it really cool, listing out how many members, visitors and WHICH members is an incredible amount of database I/O (input/output)
2- the session ID's required to do that screw with search engines and how they scan your site and index the pages.
fortunately, the chatroom works a little differently, just one quickly little db query.
