Hiya Folks

I just bought a Delta 44. I connected up the card, no problems there. Installed the drivers (via the CD) and choose XP (I am running XP on a 2.2ghz Pentium, with 768MB RAM).

Alas - I HAVE NAE SOUND! I have no external speakers other than my PC speakers but I get no sound from this damn card.

I do get sound from my internal card so I dont know where the hell I've gone wrong. I am just trying to set up Sonar and thats another minefield of problems. I have NO IDEA what I should set to what under the Audio Options!!

I try to select drivers and find a ton of stuff in there from M-Audio but alas it means nowt to me!

Can someone please please help a struggling man before he smashes the PC, audio card and monitor with a big hammer!

Cheers and all help will be MOST greatfully appreciated.

Coco.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how is the Delta 44 hooked up to the external speakers? Use "Mixer Monitor" as the record and playback if possible in the M-Audio drivers, plug the speaker into the M-Audio card and in each app that you are using make sure the preferences say that it is using the M-Audio card.

If you want the M-Audio to make the Windows system sounds and all that crap too, then you need to go into the WIndows COntrol Panel and make sure in "Sounds and Audio Devices" that the M-Audio card is selected as the primary sound device.

Hiya

Ive checked and I may have an IRQ conflict?? Its on 18 and apparently this signals a conflict!

I have the card in the one next to the GFX card I think so this may be causing it??

Anyway, in Sonar (Im trying to use ASIO under Windows XP) I have the options of:

PLAYBACK TIMING MASTER: M-Audio ASIO Analog Out 1/2 Delta 44
M-Audio ASIO Analog Out 3/4 Delta 44

RECORD TIMING MASTER: M-Audio Delta ASIO Analog In 1 Delta-44
M-Audio Delta ASIO Analog In 3 Delta-44
M-Audio Delta ASIO Mixer In L Delta 44

Are these drivers right?? I have no clue but this is soooo much more complex than the internal soundcard I had which was 1 in, 1 out and nae hassle! :-( ... cracking up I am!

RE: My speakers. These arent powered and just run right of the PC so I cant actually rig them up to the breakout box.

Will acutally moving the card move the IRQ?? Hopefully as this is nae good!

Cheers DB anyway for your help this far.

Well, that why you are not getting any sound, the speaker have to be plugged into the break out box to get any sound out of the card. Go to your nearesy electroncis store and get any adapters you need. Without that it will never work.

Also, it's not a conflist unless something else is also on that IRQ, which shouldn't be an issue, Delta's handle sharing IRQ's much better than some cards do, but it's always good practice to have it on it's own IRQ.

yes, moving the card moves the IRQ usually, unless you move it to another slot that the previous slot is bridged with on the PCI bus...don't ask what that means, it gets messier from there.

You problem is the fact that the speakers are not plugged in to the card.

coco, if you don't have any way of hooking up the pc to your speakers and don't have any external ones, you could always plug it into your home stereo or something similar on a very temporary basis, until you get what you need. I don't know how close you are to an electronics store, so depending on your distance, that might be a short term alternative.

Don't worry, I'm sure we've all done that before. I know I have.
Here's me "why's there no sound coming out. Everything should be right! Oh, I forgot to turn the speakers on. Again".

I did something similar when installing my present sound card. It's had to think clearly at 2am when you're bleary-eyed and pissed because you think your sound card's fried.

Ok... I just bought a delta 44 and I am having the same problems. The install went great but I am not getting any sound. Here is what I got:

I have a Sony Surround Sound Control Center Amp. I have a rca to 1/8 cable. I have a 1/8>1/4 adapter on the end of the cable. I have plugged in the cable to one of the outs on the delta 44 break out box. No sound. I also notice when I pull up the maudio control panel, that on the monitor mixer tab the WaveOut 1/2 bar is halfway lit up no matter if I have something plugged into the box or not.

My old default sound card worked fine with the amp and speakers.

Do yall have any ideas??

One more thing. When I plug the cable inot the 1 and 2 slot on the OUTS, I get a constant ticking noise.

OK, start at the beginning here, first, the Delta 44 will not give you surround sound at all, but should give you some sound.

My suspition regarding the no sound issue is that you have a bad cable and the "half lit" LED is from a ground prob caused by the bad cable...or adapter...also, try all output options in the MAudio control panel, Monitor Mixer is usually the best all purpose selection, tho HW 1/2 should work as well.

Make sure the Windows control panel has the Delta selected as the primary sound device, or, the app you are trying to get sound from has the Delta configed as it's output device.

First off, thank you for the reply.

Ok... I am getting no sound at all. I am sure that I do not have a bad cable because I was using it earlier today with the old sound card (minus the 1/8>1/4 adapter). I have checked the adapter and it works too.

I have tryed selecting both Monitor Mixer and HW 1/2 but to no avail. The Delta 44 is the default for all my apps. I have tried playing a song on AA 1.5 and Windows Media.

Also, I must have done somthing in the Patchbay/Router tab. I am now getting a flashing LED on both 1/2 and 3/4.

It doesnt matter if there is anything plugged into the break out box... they still flash.

Mr DB,

I reseated my card into another slot and reinstalled the software. I am now getting sound. I don't know if the card didn't have full contact or what. But I seem to be getting sound now. Again I appreciate your help and my next purchase will be a contribution to this site.
