Feb 21, 2004 09:01 pm I went with the Alesis nanocompressor, and like it just fine for amateur home-recording purposes. I don't really know what type of audience you're recording for... I've heard that the Alesis is a tad noisier than more expensive models. But as a $50 compressor sitting in my closet recording studio, I like it just fine. It's got your basic features, stereo compression, ratio, threshold, volume, attack, release knobs. Does fine by me.
Feb 21, 2004 09:51 pm I would look into the FMR RNC. Sets you back about $180 but is hailed to stand right up there with anything unnder $2000. The feedback alone on some other forums makes me want to buy one. I would seriously look into it.

Feb 22, 2004 02:01 pm I use the Behringer Composer Pro and love it. Nice price and a steady piece of gear as well. It is pretty straight forward to use and has limiter, gate, and expander all in one unit.

Feb 22, 2004 03:53 pm I would reccomend either a dbX 266 or, if you can live with fewer features, but a richer sound, the RNC from FMR Audio :: fmraudio.com/
jues.

Feb 22, 2004 10:18 pm I use an autocom pro. But to be honest I havn't yet bought into the rage of compressing an incomming signal unless it is really out of control. I much prefer capturing the signal unmodified and compressing as necessary during mixdown.

Mar 11, 2005 04:11 pm I'm going for the Behringer MDX2600 against the dbx266.
Reason - availibility. nothing else.

Mar 12, 2005 02:16 am I use the Behringer unit and its been fine for me. I am with you Walt, I set it up more as a safety net than for any real compressing. It works really well for that though.

Mar 13, 2005 02:26 pm I'd jump over to ebay and pick up an Ashly. I picked up a CL52 and an SC-50 cheap. I'd take a used Ashly over a new Behringer any day.
