i just can't make up my mind!

i think i've been bugging you guys about this enough, but i really just can't decide about how to set up my DAW. i'm going to give the complete situation, and you tell me which option you think is best. as of now i only have mic's and a computer with no good soundcard. i have 2 sm 57's, 1 sm 58, 1 seinheiser dynamic mic and 2 akg c-1000s'. oh i also have a presonus pre-amp. i need to be able to record live drums, i've abandoned the idea of recording my whole band live, because the cost of enough mic's etc is just not worth it. maybe down the line at some point that will be possible. but i want to record drums live and have enough inputs on my sound card to use a maximum of 6 mic's that will all record to separate tracks into cubase. more than that i feel is overkill.

my budget for all equipment other than mic's is 1000. at the same time i don't want to invest in any dead-end hardware that will become useless as i upgrade. the two options that i'm seriously considering are either to get the aardvark direct q10 or get a delta 1010 and a mixer. at first i thought the aardvark was a good bet, but i don't know how much i like the idea of not having a mixer, plus if i bought a mixer that could always be useful to my band for live applications or something. the aardvark is $830, and the delta 1010 is $600 so if i bought a decent mixer it wouldn't be too much more than the aardvark. am i wrong in leaning towards the delta + mixer solution? are there other solutions in my price range that i'm missing? and if you guys do support the delta + mixer solution, which mixer should i get? i keep hearing such great things about the behringers but they don't seem to have enough outputs. should i use 2 behringers in conjunction?

i know this is a long post, and you guys have answered some of these questions before, but for some reason i just can't decide what i should do, and i figured if i laid out my entire situation, your combined decades and decades of experience would be able to help. you guys don't know how thankful i am for all of this, this site is amazing.

i have used the aardvark for a while with great results until upgraded to pro tools. see www.nowhereradio.com/arti...84&alid=661 where everything i did there was with the aardvark and without a mixer... of course the aardvark is a mixer with the faders/buttions being control via software. it has inserts too.

yeah it sounds good, but actually i just found a really great deal on a used delta 1010 for 300, it's in good condition, so i bought it.... so i guess my question has been answered. i'm thinking about getting the behringer 2442FX-Pro, since it has direct outs, is that a good buy?

oh, ya mean service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear I have the 1622FX-Pro, the 2442's little bro and it's a great board. And as a bonus some of the FX on the mixer are actually very nice and usable, taken from their "virtualizer" unit.

I think the UB FX-Pro series of Behringer as very nice, I am very happy with mine.

If you can, track down a mackie 2nd hand - they have better preamps than the behringer units.

Having said that tho, You will find a 1622FX Pro like dB reccomended will do exactly what you need.

Take better soundcard and save money for good mixer. In every case you will need it.

Jues-
Do the Mackies really sound that much better than Behringer? I've never used one, but it seems that people love mackie and hate behringer... I prefer behringer due to the price but is mackie really that much better sounding

If you seriously study the responses of Behringer pres compared to Mackies with electronic measuring tools made for the job (names escape me at the moment), Mackies are better. I still struggle to actually HEAR any significant differences.

pardon?

sorry, couldn't hear you :D

heheh, a joke of course - there are differences between Makies and Behringers, but no, you may not notice them or consider them large enough to be justifyable.

To be honest, if you want to step up from Behringer Pre's you may as well go the whole hog and get something realy nice like a Neve, Aphex or high end focusrite channel imho.

jues.
