or do you mean just switching the way it looks to the "Windows Classic" theme?

Start > Control Panel > Appearence and Themes > Change the Computer's Theme

Select "Windows Classic" from the drop-down box and viola!

Short and brief answer - don't.

Complicated and hell ridden answer.

Go to the "My Comptuer" Properties page

Goto Device Manager

Select the "Comptuer" Branch (first item on the list)

Right mouse button and then properties on "ACPI UniProcessor PC" (or whatever yours currently displays

Click the "driver" tab

Click "Update Driver"

Select "Install from a list or a specified Location (Advanced)"

Click Next

Select "Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install."

Click Next

Choose "Standard PC" from the bottom of that list"

Click Next

Pray to God your PC still works (and I do mean that, I, nor HRC, takes any liability for what happens next)

Personally, I would reccomend either trying a new PCI slot, or manually steering the IRQ's of specific PCI slots from the BIOS.

Either way, Good Luck!

I did the switch to Standard PC mode as well, and my problem was fixed. The computer works fine, but I think it may have slowed it down. If there's another way to go about it then I would recommend doing it that way (The BIOS and all that). The other way you can switch to standard PC mode is by totally reinstalling XP and selecting Standard PC as the mode you wish to use. This way your computer will continue to run at top performance.

Hmmmm... That's a good question. Perhaps you should contact your computer's manufacterer for that. That's what I did when I was going through the same issue.

It doesn't. You have to hit F5 when you see the Hit F6 prompt at the bottom of the screen to install other disk drivers etc.

I would strongly recommend against installing in Standard PC mode. By doing so you remove XP's ability to share interupts and manage the hardware efficiently. There is no good reason to do so. If your having a problem with a given piece of hardware and changing the PCI slot it occupies doesn't resolve it the fault is likely with the hardware/drivers, or another piece of hardware/drivers.

I am with olddog on that. If you want to not you ACPI feature,w hat you are best off doing is going into BIOS and disabling ACPI on the MoBo, then when you reinstall XP it won't see ACPI and won't use it.

That said, I wouldn't do that. I have an Audiophile as well and ACPI has given me no problems at all. What else have you done to do try to fix it? Have you moved the card from slot to slot and tried? Are you sure you have the newest drivers from M-Audio? Whatever app you use to record, are you sure you are using the best driver type?

yea, ive tried about 3 slots total, and they all seem to have the same problem....my creative (piece of junk) card has and irq of 11 while my audiophile has one of 10, and so forth... i was wondering if bouncing my irq on the audiophile would be the thing to do? the only problem is, i dont know how to get into bios, or change the irq in the first place?

in contrast to other posts, ive read a lot of posts saying standard mode fixed thier problems with the audiophile.

Since you are on a brand name system they may not allow you to set IRQ's manually or to disable the ACPI via BIOS (pre-fab system suck like that), but it may. When your PC first starts there is usually a message that say "Press F2 for setup" or something like that. That is where you get in to BIOS. You want your Audiophile on thehighest IRQ possible, only behind your video card. Video cards are suaully on the 11 IRQ, sound card 10, secondary sound card 9 and all the other crap under there.

Otherwise you can alwasy call HP and try to get some help.
