Multiple Hardware Profiles...

Okay here is an in depth question...

I am looking to set up two hardware profiles on my computer to retain functionality of multiple sound cards.

1. For example would it be possible for me to...
Load my SB Live soundcard into a hardware profile, let's call it "Profile A"
And, load my M-audio Delta 44 into a separate profile, let's say "Profile"
I wanted to do this because would like to use the SB Live for everyday use and midi work and keep the Delta for recording purposes.

2. If this is possible, how do you do this in Windows ME?

i'm sure you can, but did you know that you can have multiple soundcards installed imultaneously?

Yeah... but I wanted to keep them separate in case there were any problems with drivers and such. Basically I want a stripped down version for recording, loading as little stuff as possible.

That is something you would really want to look into an NTFS-based system for, such as Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

i think the effort towards this minimalism in terms of the difference between whether it is one sound card or two is misplaced. it's not going to make the biggest difference in the world, and there are a lot of other things that will make a world of difference.

keeping your hard disk defraged, more ram, run msconfig and disable everything that is not necessary from the startup scripts for windows, don't be running crap in the background...there are loads of things. I wrote an article about in the recording tips if you want more, under the computer-based section...

dB's suggestions are crutial to maintaining a smooth running computer (audio or not).

Also, check out my article on creating a Dual Boot XP system - much of it still applies for ME.

jues.
