How many milliseconds until latency is noticable?

Jun 27, 2003 08:01 pm depends on you, the intstrument your playing and the way you are monitoring. I notice latency much more in headphones than over speakers, for example.
Jun 27, 2003 08:01 pm i heard somewhere it's more than 50. but my memory is foggy. i'm curious too. i guess it might also depend on the individual listening.
Jun 27, 2003 09:14 pm I thought I heard 50 also. Can't quite remember. Something about sound travels a foot per millisecond and 50 is when you notice a little reverb or echo.

Jun 27, 2003 09:51 pm how about this? zoom in really close in your recording software and move one track forward until you can hear it sounding late, and look at how much you moved it.

Jun 28, 2003 06:16 pm I think it's more around 11ms to notice if it's late and 50ms to sound like a new sound source
Jun 28, 2003 06:28 pm I run about 11ms in Sonar at the moment and notice latency on a very rare occassion, since Sonar handles it's own latency issues quite well and makes up for them.
Jun 30, 2003 05:10 pm 11 ms sounds about right. I remember reading a time-based effect article about around 50ms you get a little reverb, depending on pre-delay and etc.
