I was thinking more along the lines of trumpet, trombone, or sax... but if you can come up with something good, I'd be willing to take a listen...

where's the song at? it sounds like a soprano sax with a middle eastern vibe.

I have a few horn blast samples that can be used in something like fruityloops to sequence some horn parts if you want them...

Using samples goes against my punk rock ethics I think... that and I'm too stupid/lazy to sequence stuff. If you wanna have a go at it though, you're more than welcome.

Well, first I would need the song to put them too ;-)

As far as going against these ethics...I think you would probably be surprised how many acts of almost all generes of music use sequencing and things like that. Many CD's proudly say "No computers used in making this album" however, they don't say that they used old tape loop machines, sample players, tape delays and other tools of that nature.

Just because it wasn't done on a PC doesn't mean it's not artificially generated...also, it saves you the hassle of needing to find other musicians to work with if you only need it for one song...

Don't hold your music back because of some predisposition to thinking sequenced music is somehow less worthy or less musical. If it sounds good, then it's good music regardless of the means used to get there.

At least that's my two cents.

The whole ethics thing was mostly a joke... and as far as only needing it for one song, we actually are thinking of going ska, so we wanted to see what our stuff would sound like with horns.

And the song can be found in my music section.

Ah, well, I knowa lot of peeps that really feel that they are somehow more of a musician or more of a band because they don't use methods like this, which is funny to me since I pretty much judge by what hits my ear, as most people do.

If you don't use sequenceing and such, thats great, but if it sounds like crap with or without sequencing, it's still crap :-)

And would rather hear good artificially generated music than lousy real music.

not to stoke any flames, but i always get weird when people auto-tune vocals. i liked being able to hear when the singer would be slightly off in the take. i'm always surprised to hear when they try to pull off some crazy tricks that only sound so precise when a computer is doing it. why not just speak the words convincingly and build the tune with a computer? that would be fun.

Are you trying to tell me my band sucks or something?

hehehe, no Hero, I know it kinda sounded like that, but I was speaking very generally about bands in general.

Minkus, I agree, natural is cool, but, if they do it right you wouldn;t even be able to know they did it...if they do a lousy job of processing it, then it's the same as if they do a lousy job of singing in the first place.

I will look and listen tomorrow, if you can, email me a chord structure for the sections so I have a starting point.

Minkus, that shehnai sounds really ... wicked. Is it yours? Do you keep it in your studio? Reason I'm asking is I'd loved to have some samples of that. We could do a trade or something.

dB, I totally agree on the use of samples, even though that's not what Hero meant. On the inlay inside Filter's first album they wrote something like "Filter, being members of the current millenia, freely admit to the use of samplers and other electronic devices" or something like that.

So why do we call Hero "Hero". Isn't he supposed to be "no one's hero"? Maybe we should call him "villian" :O)

Good point...but he will always be "fuzzball" to me ;-)

I'll play with it over the next couple days "villian"...see if I can come up with anything.

Dude, whats the bpm of this? I am guessing your recorded this without any real bpm and just flew with it, eh? That will make it aweful tough to sequence anything to it.

hey Hero, check this out: That shinai that Minkus has got? It might not be what you're looking for on this track, but it's sound so cool. Think of that Offspring track "Come Out and Play" with the funky middle-eastern sound. I know that was a guitar playing that line, but you get the idea.
