Just an FYI for yous guys...I have been changing up the design a little bit here to be more responsive to different sized screens and devices. It will be a continual work in progress, of course, as it's a big site with a lot of moving parts, but I have gained a lot of ground over this weekend...it SHOULD perform a bit better in some of the larger portable devices like tablets...with the smaller things like phones it's not that great yet, but should be a hella bunch better than is was...I've been testing on desktops, laptops, netbooks, kindles and ipods...it'll come along slowly, but hopefully those of you using these devices are already noticing a little bit of an improvement.

Hey, maybe you could add a "Likes This" function...

Feb 19, 2013 05:36 am Mayhaps I'll see how it performs next time I'm out with my Asus android tablet. Though it didn't feel sluggish or anything to begin with.
Still, optimization is always a good thing. :D
Feb 19, 2013 06:45 am I've thought about adding a "like" to the forum, rather than repeating the same things, people could just agree with another post, but for fear of being too facebookish, I haven't yet...
Feb 19, 2013 04:01 pm On a sidenote, I've noticed that at least at times, the site is loading really slowly -- Even to the point of timing out occasionally. Seems almost random at this point...
(EDIT) See? That loaded like a bullet. Another page is *still* in the background waiting (opened a new tab for this one).
Feb 19, 2013 04:26 pm Your thread with that picture of you is timing out, I tried to reply, but I can't...I have to handle in thread atttachments better, that is often what causes things to fail...but, duly noted, I may look in to that tonight.
Cool pic, too, by the way.
Feb 19, 2013 10:29 pm Wow - you're right. That thread is particularly slow.
It doesn't like me. :-(
Noticed that there are no related topics listed on that page -- Dunno if that's a clue to anything. And the photo is hosted here, so that's, uh, I suppose I should see how photos are loading.
Hmmm... Many of the photos on my photos page aren't even loading... Going to try changing the source of that photo to one of my sites to see if the load changes.
(EDIT)
Loads immediately (photo sourced at my personal site). Something fishy in the photos...
(ANOTHER EDIT)
Re-upp'd the photo and put it back in the thread to see if the slowdown would happen again -- Yep. It still hasn't saved the submitted post actually...
There it goes. Even takes forever just to go into edit mode.
Put the shots from my site up and related topics show up again also.
I would have to assume this is an internal error of some sort, but I'm not savvy enough to figure out exactly what.

Feb 22, 2013 01:11 pm I just wanted to check in and say that I like the proposed Like feature. I think it would interesting to integrate some Facebook features, such as Share and Like. Also, a few of my Facebook cronies are musicians who haven't yet been to HRC. Ads on this site could potentially reach way beyond its membership, if people share popular posts or responses. Could be a good thing?
Feb 22, 2013 09:07 pm The upper right corner has the ability to share, it's on every page of the site.
Massive, the problem is just the processing of bigger images, I need to make some changes regarding how images are loaded, or cache them and dumb them down...I should load a div then load the image in an AJAX fashion, so as not to interfere with the main page load.
I might get to it this weekend but I have a Lodge fundraiser on Sunday morning, and gotta get some bass lines laid down on some new music...hopefully I can get something done though.
Until then, I am feeling some bass playin coming on...just poured a homebrew, time to load up Reaper. :-)
Mar 05, 2013 07:41 am Has anyone had any time on the site on tablets or phones? Just curious of any experience reports.
On tablets it should be pretty decent, phones are still a crap shoot, I may spend the rest of the week working on the smaller devices, I got a side job done (or, done until further notice) so I have some time while I am between full time gigs.
Any feedback would be most beneficial.
Mar 14, 2013 02:26 am my Atrix 4G running gingerbread (android OS 4.3.6, stock browser) shows the thread titles, in a "two word limit style" vertical fashion which is strange but not intolerable, just leads to more down-scrolling. i'd much rather see it horizontal ....the way i read....i'd attach a screenshot, but i'm too damn lazy...lemme know if ya wanna see it though, cuz i can figure out how to post it if i am unclear with my description.
Mar 15, 2013 01:46 pm fixed! looks great now!....good one D
Mar 15, 2013 01:49 pm Thanks, yeah, I did some work in the last day or two to format things better for a wider range or devices, down to the smaller devices...hopefully it works.
Mar 15, 2013 08:48 pm It doesn't say when the posts were last updated now, just who it was updated by. I found that info helpful.
Mar 16, 2013 07:10 am OK, cool, I can add that back, didn't know if people used that or not.
Mar 16, 2013 08:29 am OK, the date is back. Thanks for the feedback on that!
The recent changes were to further support the responsiveness to the smallest of devices, cellphones...so this one site can move itself around nicely between devices, and not have to maintain multiple sites. It should work OK, but if anyone has input on different devices, I'd love to hear it.
The job is getting tougher considering all the different sized devices, from desktops, to tablets, to mini tablets, to cell phones...it's crazy!
Mar 16, 2013 01:59 pm Thanks dude :)

Mar 17, 2013 02:54 pm Yeah, so far no problems with the site on my tablet. (Asus TF300t) though on an unrelated note, it seems the last android firmware update has caused Chrome to become a bit sluggish on my device....firefox is working a bit better right now.
I still use Chrome for the ease of logging into stuff that involves google, and the majority of browsing, but I use firefox for other stuff (like the few sites out there that still involve flash based stuff and haven't moved on to html5)
Mar 17, 2013 02:58 pm Thanks for checking in, good to hear it's working.
So, what Chrome are you using? Production Chrome, or Chrome Canary? I use Canary on everything except my Chromebook...Canary has some issues every now and then with things being released before they probably should.

Mar 17, 2013 10:58 pm Hmmm, good question. I looked at it, but I'm not entirely sure which Chrome is on android.
play.google.com/store/app...251bGwsMSwyLDNd
That's the page in the google play store, and what I'm using. It doesn't really say which one it is based on, so I'll risk assuming it's based on Canary.
Mar 19, 2013 06:33 am Canary is a specific download, so if you were on Canary you'd know it I'd think.
Apr 22, 2013 01:59 pm i have had no problems viewing and posting on an iphone. it's a little teeny for my old eyes but i can spread it out for reading and posting. thanks for your work on this.
Apr 23, 2013 08:37 am Glad to hear it, thanks for letting me know.
I will work to improve it more and more as time permits.
