Introducing myself

Hi all-

I am new to this site and am really looking forward to checking out all the knowledge and banter here. I am a guitarist/(somewwhat reluctant)singer/songwriter from NY who recently moved to Northern California.

Been playing guitar for many years but started writing and recording about a year and a half ago and it is one of the most amazing and fun things I have done. Nothing like laying down a new track and hearing the potential for the first time.

I posted one of my songs, but I don't want to be "that guy" that jumps on here begging for attention, so I will chill and try and get a better feel for the way things work around here for a while.

Thanks to all who contribute here and happy new year.

Mike

Hi, welcome to HRC from another northern californian (depending on how you define northern california, ha ha). If you have any questions go ahead and ask, or feel free to jump in on the banter.

Edit: oh, I see, Marin. Well, I'm currently more northern than you.

Thanks coolo ! I'm a NYer, so when I landed they said it's called Northern California and I stuck with that.

I will ask, but I need to spend some time catching up first. Talk soon.

Don't worry about it. I'm originally from SF and we call it northern california. But people up north (like Redding, etc), say we are not north enough for that moniker. Ha.

Always good to see new folks join the forum here. There's a number of us who are pretty regular here. Many of us check in at least once a day, though don't always get around to responding to stuff. We try, though.

Honestly, this is one of the most chill places you can hang. I've bounced around many other audio related forums, and I can safely say that gear snobbism is something you will not find much of here.

Though GAS does raise its head on occasion. :D

I'm a keyboardist (well, a hack really) and started getting into recording live bands recently, while trying to churn out a passable mix from a shitty apartment room, hah. Sometimes I succeed. xD Sometimes, I even get paid for it! Well, gas money at least. :P

But yeah, there is a lot of info here as well as quite a few knowledgeable people in the field. I like to pretend I'm one of the knowledgeable ones, but I'm really still a self-taught (over 7 or 8 years) rookie. I'm slowly gaining experience as I record and mix, though. However unsuitable my apartment room is for doing this stuff. (I've got pics up in various places)

So yeah, welcome to HRC. Hope ya stick around. Could always use some new people to corrup-er I mean help out. 0:)

Nice to meet you Mike. My name's Mike :) Good name.

I'm a southern California dude myself, currently based in Washington state.

And as far as I'm concerned, the more songs up the better! Be "that guy". We need "that guy". Most of the time we post songs with a view to getting them critiqued, and most of us know what we're talking about :P

Anyway, sorry for the belated welcome. I donno why this post slipped by me.

Btw, your song is sick! I'm guessing you're into classic rock? That's the vibe I'm getting at least. I totally dig it. Reminds me a little of pink floyd, maybe mixed with david bowie. Good job though! Impressive mix for only 1 1/2 years of recording experience.
