Hello,
I am working on recording a podcast from home. Obviously, I do not have the best environment, but I make sure that all fans, air conditioners, etc are turned off when I am recording. Even so, I still get a fair amount of white noise on the recording. I can remove it via the software that I use, but that can affect the quality of the audio. What tips should I use to get rid of white noise during recording?
Thanks

Aug 06, 2009 05:08 pm How far do you have your pre-amp turned up? I tend to do better tracking a little quieter and then bringing up the levels. If I crank the pre to 3/4 or more then I get substantially more background (air) noise.

That's what separates the high dollar from the budget pre's.

Aug 06, 2009 08:28 pm To be honest, it's pretty meager. I have a microphone, a Mac computer and Audacity. I know I am likely asking for too much with what I have, but I thought maybe there were some tips I could use.

Aug 07, 2009 11:28 am Got a brand and model number for your mic?
Are you using the stock sound card that came with your Mac?
Are you plugging your mic into the line input of your sound card, or are you plugging it into the mic input?
These are a few handy things for us to know.

Aug 07, 2009 07:30 pm Sub-point: How do you tell what color noise is?
Aug 07, 2009 07:31 pm Take some LSD, wait about 30 minutes and you'll see the color.
