Yer So Bad w/ my son singing

My youngest son was visiting from AZ and has taken up the guitar and singing and He wanted to do this song while He was here. He just started with the guitar so He didn't play on this but He did the vocals and hi harmony part. I thought He did pretty well for his first time singing (better than me I think :) I've tried for years to get one or both of my son's to start singing so I'm really happy one of them finally did!

Any how, I've posted the song in my profile hope some will give a listen and comment. AIso I'd also love to hear how the mix is, we basically did this whole thing in one day.

Very cool song, Dan. I've never heared it before... sounds like something Tom Petty would do... or maybe The Kinks. The mix sounds good from here, at work on the 'ol compy-speakers... nice and 'even'. The kids voice is pretty darn good, too! welll done guys.

wow never heard that one ay? it's been on the radio plenty over the years.....interesting......

only quim i have is the double tracked vocals...or is that a chorus effect?.....i'd much rather just hear one track mono dead center...

other than that, mix sounds good to me....i'd like to hear a drum fill here and there, but i'm not even sure if there's a fill on the original! haha

cheers, and yeah singin' is fun!

Hue!!!

Were you been lining, a cardboard box? :-)

For me, I was grinning the whole way through just thinking about it. Your trademark guitar sound on there, which I truly dig. I like that song as well from Petty and think you guys did a good job.

I as well would like to hear a little more natural voice in the verse parts. But it works as is also. I have to listen again though to catch any other stuff. I was more just chekin out hsi singing. Did a good job for his first time if ya ask me.

Thanks for listening and commenting guys! The double track is alot higher in the mix than I thought I had it, I must have messed up the automation some where along the line, it was supposed to be that level only during the chorus. I'll have to go in and fix that. :)

He did some vocals on one of my old songs just before He left I'm going to finish that one up and probably post it as well, it's one I haven't redone yet.

I must've had a brani-fart when I posted that... I have heard this before. I just couldn't place it... deffinately sounds like a Petty song! lol But yeah, unfortunately it's not that interesting, WYD... just statistical. bah!

It's cool how I was able, by using your sons voice, to get the Petty-ness of the song... deffinately comes, but still maintains his voice. Nice.

Don't feel bad Hue, I never heard this song before either...

Anyhow, I like this recording. Your son does a good job. I would agree with pulling the second vocal down a bit, but I think it will sound good if it's still there, just less prevalent. Also, wouldn't mind if the guitars came up in the mix a bit (or vocals down?). But it sounds pretty good as is too. You know me, I like to be nitpicky. Nice work Dan.

Edit:
Oh, and the 10 seconds of intro silence made me think the player wasn't working at first... haha.

Wow, don't know how I missed that coolo good catch, I thought I chopped the beginning off.

I'm almost done with the tweaks, I'm lowering the main vocal slightly/raising the guitars slightly, fixing the automation on the doubled vocal and I'm experimenting with a bit of delay on the vocal.

Thanks for the comments Coolo, aprreciated for sure.

Hue, yep I heard the same the first time I heard him sing it, definitley his voice, but at the same time I got a very Petty vibe from it., thanks again.

I updated the mix with all the suggestions, if anyone is interested. I'll probably pull it down in about a week as I don't leave my covers up very long. :D

Ya, that's got it for sure. The vocal is clear and sharp now and everything is sitting very well in the mix. I think that vocal works much better in this mix for sure. Nicely done.

Thanks for listening again Noize! Think I'm going to drop the delay just a bit on the vocal and that'll be it.

I'm almost done with an original we did while he was here, just debating on whether to add some harmonies here and there in it. It's an old song I wrote, but hadn't redone yet and He really wanted to do it so We did. :D

Cool, post it when it ready. I have to admit to being a bit of a fan of your original stuff.
