I like the MXL a little better as it has a bit fuller sound to it. It is a good all around vocal mic and can be used in many other area's as well.

The C-1 has a bit of a bump in the upper mids that can sound a bit un-natural at times.

The MXL 990 is a standard XLR connected mic. It is not USB. There is a version that is but the MXL 990 is not. I own one so I'm pretty confidant on that.

i used a 990 when my go to mic wehn out and a poject ( last resort) and it worked very well. a little EQ and all was well. not bad for a low priced mic.

I have a MXL 990 & 992 and the 990 is a nice mic, but for a bit more the MXL 992 is alot better sounding IMO.

990 for most things, the C-1's were actually quite decent as overheads on drums though.

The MXL 990 isn't exactly an award-winning mic, but it's a competent mid-diaphragm condensor. At Musician's Friend, the plain 990 model is selling for $49, which is a steal.

Then they have a 990 model that has a rolloff and -10dB pad switch for like $10 or $20 more. The pad switch would be useful if you're planning on micing any loud sound sources like guitar amps or drums. My 990 distorts/clips when presented with a cranked guitar amp. Otherwise, the plain model 990 is a good entry-level condensor for vocals and acoustic instruments.

between these 2:
MXL V63M Studio Condenser Microphone
MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount

the 990 better than the v63M?

Personal choice would be the 990. It has a smoother frequency curve and not as big a drop off on the high end. But the low end charts our much fuller as well on the 990.

spend a little more and buy a studio projects b-1. i dont own one but i've heard amazing things and i've listened to a few recordings of them are it sounded great.

i have a behringer c-1 and its not that great but not horrible. probably about the same quality as any large diaphram condensor that's 100 bucks or less
