Bill Cosby on the Dick Cavett show, relating a story about playing jazz. It's worth it. Check Jack Benny's reactions.

Mar 09, 2008 01:04 pm been there... though I was able to play the part and it only lasted a short while... however it was during marching band and the formation was a gigantic rotating asterisk and it happened I was the only snare drummer who could reach a cymbal during the rotation...
moved to a different school and played the same song in concert band but a different drummer played the part on a set... the first play though at tempo was along the lines of:"dadadingdadadingdadadingdadading'AGGHHH'dadadingdadading' ****!..."
... never underestimate how useful 'the leg spasm' is too...

Mar 09, 2008 01:35 pm One of the all-time great storytellers for sure. That was him in his prime. I tink I've seen "Himself" about 50 times, which was maybe 5 years or so after that show. Man what a riot!
Only Bill would have a story that ends in being relieved on the drums by Max Roach! I couldn't even relieve myself on the drums.

Mar 09, 2008 03:10 pm Classic, one of the greats for sure. He could have you in tears laughing so hard and never utter a curse word.
I'm no drummer but boy can I relate to that trying to play to faster stuff. LOL
