Automatic Mix Down/Bounce... Is it possible? Help!

Hi there, I desperately need some help here or a point to the right direction!!

I ‘m not sure if what I want to do is doable, but it needs to be done!

I need to be able to automatically produce an audio file, something like a news bulletin. What I need to do is combine (Bounce/Mix Down), a certain music MP3 file which will be the background music of the News bulletin, with 7-8 MP3 segments which will be spoken audio.
Is there anyway to do that automatically via a script or any other way?

Steps needed : (the way I imagine it)
1) Load MP3 Music File (say 2 minutes long)
2) Load 7 MP3 News Segment Files (say 90 seconds long altogether of various lengths each)
3) Evenly space the News Segment Files within the MP3 Music File
4) Mix Down / Bounce all of them
5) Save Bounced Mix to a specific MP3 filename, with specific output settings ie. 128/44/stereo

It would be even better (much much better) if all that can happen from command line!
I don’t care which software to use, I’m totally open to suggestions!

Please help!

Best Regards,

Ted

Welcome to the HRC.

You pretty much explained how to do it. Put the music on one track and the news segments on another and mix it. Now it's just a matter of picking the software and learning how to use it.

if you really want command line access, I think the best option is Ecasound...it is something I haven't touched yet though...

once you know what you want and how it's done it wouldn't be much to make it a shell script...

I can't imagine why anyone would want to run it from the command line, since using the GUI is so much quicker and easier. But to each his own.

'quicker' 'easier' a recording jedi craves not these things... :)

besides, sounds like a remote webcast... shell scripts would allow it to be automagically regenerated whenever a new voice over is uploaded... it'd append all of the VO files into one... calculate time... mix with background music for the calculated time...and could be done with script to upload the files and start the mixing over ssh.

Thanx for the prompt replies guys... But you're missing the point (I think)...
I know what I want done like you said.. The thing is that I want it automatically.. Without any human intervention... I want for example a pool folder full of news segments in MP3 format and I want the automated routine (whichever that may be, script file, batch file etc...) to pick from that pool and space evenly within the given length of the music bed file and create the bounced file by itself!
Now any ideas?

Well WinXP basically... But if there's something ready and does what I ask, I 'd move to any other OS!

Although someone here may know, this is not really a recording related question (for the most part). Sounds like you need to talk with some script writers. Even then you may have problems because it sounds as if you want to script to interact with your recording software also.

I wish you luck on this one :)

some programs have macro ability, though this may be a bit much for a macro to handle... might be worth investigating.

Adobe Audition can probably do what your looking for. It has a batch script function that you can run it through what to do and from then on you can use the script. Download the demo and see if it will suit your needs, it's fully functional for 30 days.

Are you looking for something to run on a website for this?

I'm a bit confused as to what and where the use of the final product will be.

No website, it would be run locally but automatically and produce an MP3 file... Thats all, but all I wanna be doing is just record the segment MP3 files and put them in a folder...
Since I'm a programmer I can also create an external application that would do all the necessary calculations and selections of the files etc... and based on all that it could create a script file on the fly prior to run Audition... Would that work somehow? See I'm asking since I'm totally unfamiliar with how scripts work in Audition.
