First day at school!!

Ha, and I didn't get beat up by the bully.

..but I did learn a few things. Funny thing but in another thread there was discussion of dB, wattage and all that fun stuff. At school there was also mention of atmospheric pressure. Conversation level, feeling threshold, pain threshold.

I got to see some of the gear I will be using.

The main console is a Peavey 1600. A 32 channel board. Rack gear included an Avalon pre, a couple of MOTU interfaces, 5 DAT's, a Focusrite pre, hmmm, can't think of what the rest of the stuff was. Monitor wise they have a set of vintage red tweed Tannoys which are really cool (~1970). Genelecs and a set of Rolands.

The room is awesome. Very nicely treated and quite large with a grand piano.

Feeling pretty good about the experience. Seems like there will be a lot less "fluff" than other schools.

BONUS: Scored an ongoing tag along gig that will put me behind a console tracking live gigs. Will be able to learn lots there as well....for free!

Yup, feeling good this evening.

If the bully does come after you, eye gouge...works every time. fingers stiff, spread apart and jab, one of the hopefully five extended phalanges will get 'em...if he turns his head, grab the ear, pull slightly forward and it'll rip right off...with about the same force as it takes to open a soda can.

Just lookin out for ya, man.

sweet. plus you've saved $56. starting this new year off right!

edit: db, I found the ear pulling thing very disturbing. I think I'd rather be kicked in the nuts than lose an ear...

I read a psychology study some time ago which said that when a person is given the opportunity to save his life using eye-gouging, almost no one will do it. It's a base-of-the-brain taboo for something like 99% of all people. Interesting.

Yeah, that's true with most any defense...one mind-block my wife had a HUGE problem with in class was learning to hit somebody at all. It's just not human instinct for most people.

95% of people natural don't want to hurt others...the other 5% have mental illnesses...

Myself, I have no problem hitting somebody that has it coming...I guess that puts me in the 5%...

I bet they didn't figure in the 'mother protecting her young' aspect.

In that demographic, I bet it's more like 80% wouldn't have a problem, 18% would do it, but wouldn't like it, and 2% have mental illness =).

I'd agree with that...if our kids were in danger I doubt my wife would have any issue opening a can of whoop-***.

I think the mental illness rate amongst women who have given birth would be more like 99.9% LOL

My mother had no qualms about hitting people when they deserved it. And by "people" I of course mean "me".

I think this is instinct as well.

I'll make sure to keep the eye gouge tactic in mind in case I need it cause there is no ******* way anyone is stealing my lunch money!

Oh and I forgot to actually comment on the thread topic there...

So no ProTools? You mean the world of audio engineering can exist outside the domain of DigiDesign? How can this be? This is like when I learned there was no Santa Claus. All the lies and deceit...I feel faint all of a sudden. Surely there's a Digi001 hiding in that room somewhere, right?

Sounds like this is going to be a lot of fun man, wish I had the gumption to do the same thing.

Hmmm...

It has been my experience that the ONLY kid that doesn't get bullied on the first day of school is the BULLY himself.

BH.....is there something you're not telling us?

Ya, there is a Digi 001 there. The teacher mentioned that you can expect the same results with other packages (thankfully we are on the same page). We will be using Logic as well.

Ha, I'm the oldest in the class but thankfully the teacher is older. Funny thing is all the other students were drooling over the digital **** and I think I was the only one drooling over the analog stuff.

If the bully doesn't come after you, he's probably on strike with the writers. either that, or your bigger than him.

Ya, I would like to do this. I will be writing notes anyways and bringing a small recorder so I might as well post it all.

Where is a good place to blog?

You have a blog here as well you know. I spend too much time out here so I don't write in mine. I should start using it as a diary. Man that would scare everyone.

Glad you had a good first day. And it sounds like you got a cool little gig as well out of the deal.
