Wow, not sure what's up with the concert going this year but here is the line up of shows I'll be seeing over the next few months.

Roger Waters (yahoo, this Thursday)
The Scorpions
The Blue Man Group
Kim Mitchell with April Wine

...and I may go to Stray Cats, Pretenders and ZZ Top but haven't quite decided on that one yet.

Anyhow, it's going to be a very entertaining summer!

I've got a couple coming up that I'm really looking forward to.
Tool July 9th and Zappa plays Zappa July 30th.
I missed out on Vai tickets this time around though, haven't missed a Toronto date in years.

I've seen ZZ Top a few times, they rock...I've seen Terminator, El Loco and Tres Hombre's tours I believe...I also caught them once in a small theatre show, about 1,200 seats, we were second row in the balcony, which, in that theatre is about 10' back from the stage overhead, GREAT seats, great sound...I could see Billy's bloodshot eyes...ZZ Top is one of my favs. Some of the best shows I have ever seen.

I have never seen Setzer, I'd like to tho...he's awesome, Stray Cats are great.

Like WYD, I don't often do the big stadium shows any more (Blue Man Group was a recent exception) I like the small venues...casino's, theatres, small clubs and such.

Ya, can't say I really like the big venue's but to see someone like Water's I guess you're gonna have to see them in a large venue. The Blue Man Group is also playing a large venue but the rest are really small. The Scorpions will be playing in a small theatre. Now that will be cool.

I've seen ZZ Top and they are awesome. It was awhile ago but if I remember correctly the audience tends to trash the place wherever ZZ plays.

Yeah, some groups you have no choice but to hit the big venues...I guess I am lucky as the bands I loved as a teen and still love, if they are playing still, they are playing the smaller rooms...Styx, Molly Hatchet, B52's, and bands of that era.

I'd love to see Molly Hatchet but I can't say that I've ever heard of them touring around here. Styx, I just saw them not too long ago (with Gowan replacing DeYoung). B52's, they are still touring? Wow, that would be cool.

I'd love to see The Tubes but I havn't heard anything from them in a long, long time. Hmmm, gotta check it out and see if they are still alive.

We've been having a great time here at work laughing about all the Geezer Fest tours that are going on right now. :)

I saw the B52's at the Casino by me on New Years a couple years ago and they still rocked.

Molly Hatchet pops up at local venues here now and then...big clubs or small halls.

i got to see styx and kansas about 8 years ago....one of the best shows i've been too....10th row back in a huge outdoor venue!

dB, i gotta admit, it's a wierd mental pic seein' you lip-synching "i got me a crysler, it's as big as a whale, and it's about to set saaaail"...

I will forewarn you that you may be dissappointed with the ZZ Top show though. A friend of mine just saw them and was extremely bummed by it. They were playing and singing very sloppy. He stated that their age is showing more then it has in the past. Not hitting the note they used to or even coming close. And the guitar playing was mostly done way off the mark.

I loved ZZ Top and would love to see them again, but I'm not sure I would want to be bummed out by a show that is clearly not up to their old standards.

damn, i'm gooin' with the parents really to see stray cats, and a close second is to see zz top...i grew up with them, Dimebag loved them (both from texas), and i remember Cliff Burton givin' 'em props in Cliff 'em 'All....

i'd hate to ruin my vision of them.....kinda like a crappy movie made from a good book.

I know what you mean. That is one of the few shows my wife would probably go see and the boyz want to see them as well. I just don't know. Maybe he just caught them on an off night or something.

But I did notice on the VH1 Honors show they sounded pretty bad. No harmony parts that were even close, or wailing licks like the old days. But again, maybe an off night.

I'm going to see Aero Smith in July. I never went to concerts when I was young, but since around '92 I've been making up for lost time, I've seen just about every one I'd want to see. My only regret is I didn't go see The Beatles when I had the chance, but I did see Ringo & His All Star Band. :)

I've seen Aerosmith a couple times too, always a good show, their opening acts have usually sucked though.

My wife is a big Aerosmith fan, we saw them a couple of years ago and Cheap Trick opened. Very good show, I had not seen either band before.
I was impressed with the energy Aerosmith had, they're starting to show signs of wear but you'd never know it to see them up there for a few hours that night.

The openings acts when I saw them were Pat Traverse once, that was likely the worst show I have ever seen in a large venue...707 was another I think (maybe that was a Nugent opener, I forget), I did see Aerosmith with Orion the Hunter opening once, that was decent now that I think about it...

Cheap Trick is great, the greatest satire of a rock themselves, great music, unique image/personality...love Cheap Trick!

Yeah, soft spot in my heart for the Cheap Trick too, and they sounded fantastic.

I saw Cheap Trick open for KISS on their Love Gun tour. The show rocked but it was a bit of an eventful night.

I thought I was going to die that day. This concert was during the days of festival seating. We arrived early to get good seats. Me and my friend were right up against the outside glass doors of the stadium waiting to get in. There was a delay in getting the doors open and people started to get a little antsy. A security guard walked by inside and everyone then began pushing forward. I was getting squeezed up against the glass doors. Then all of a sudden the glass doors began popping out of the frames as everyone pushed forward. The relief from everyone pushing forward was short lived though as there was another set of doors to go through. This time they were wood doors and here is the really unfortunate part. The doors opened toward the crowd that was pushing forward so as long as people kept pushing forward, they couldn’t open the doors. All I could do it try to use my arms to keep from falling. My feet weren’t even touching the ground a lot of times. I stepped on a few people while I was getting tossed around. Not sure how they did it but they managed to get the doors open and people were finally able to get in. They weren’t even in a position to check tickets. They just let everyone in. Amazingly no one was killed. The was just before the tragic Who concert in Cincinnati. Thankfully they don’t have festival seating anymore.

During my decade-long time working security at Sonshine (a Christian rock/pop music festival in Minnesota) that usually has 30k or so people and 3-4 stages, I can say that the pushing BH discribes is the worst...I remember lifting out more passed out kids, over the front-stage barrier to get them to medics...it doesn't sound like a big deal, but with a few thousand people pushing you against a solid barrier, it's hard to even brace yourself with your arms...they just collapse and your body gets shoved against the barrier, crushing your body, making it very hard to breath. I remember having to go into those crowds and pull out idiots making it worse and stuff...

Man, one of the hardest, and yet most fun, volunteer jobs I have ever done. Did see some ugly stuff though just due to the huge crowds pushing forward.

Well I just got an e-mail about a pre-sale for Nickelback so I'm adding yet another concert to the list. Ya, ya, I know, its Nickelback which has its share of naysayers but WTF, I like a lot of their songs and I would think it would be a good show (IMO anyways). Afterall they were just inducted into the Canadian Rock Hall of Fame and have sold over 23 million albums worldwide.

shepardsam, if you have not seen the Zappa does Zappa show yet you are in for a real treat. Not dissing his dad in any way here as he was one of my greatest hero's. But Dweezel plays his fathers stuff to perfection, and I mean the kind of perfection his father was known for. I had heard that even Steve Vai makes an appearance on occasion and the two shred it out. And funny enough is the fact that Dweezel smokes him completely. He is one of the most underated guitar players out there. Absolute technical genious like his father was. Every note has its place.

As for shows here, not sure what we will be seeing this summer. Evanesance is on the top of the list, and dare I say so is Linkin Park. And I believe we will be hitting the Warped tour as well this summer.

And hell ya Cheap Trick are well worthy of the rock and roll hall of fame for gods sake. After all these years they are still one of the tightest little bands out there. And their stuff still sound fresh.

The Police reunion tour completely pissed me off, but it also gave me a lesson on marketing.

As soon as I heard about their upcoming reunion tour back in January or so, I immediately went online to find out when, where, and how I could get a seat at the Denver concert. I subscribed to all the email alerts available through the tour website, Ticketmaster, etc., and sat back and waited.

They sent me emails on time, of course, but they were about how I could get the REAL info on getting the tickets early by joining the “Police Tour Fan Club” which cost $100 over the cost of the tickets. I balked, and waited for a few weeks. By then, all available tickets at the Denver venue were gone of course, snatched up by wealthy enthusiasts before me who bought the “fan club” package, and whose bank accounts and desire to see the Police had apparently exceeded mine.

They were one of my favorite bands, and I would have loved to have a ringside seat. I also have to admire their mastery of capitalism.

If you’re a Police fan, you must see the movie “Everyone Stared”.
