Hello again, I have yet another newbish question.
I was wondering if I could get some responses on how high everyone has their "Main Mix" Volume up on their mixers while recording. I put mine around +7 db(75%) while recording. However, it still sounds quite on the CD. I increase the levels slightly on Cubase SE than a little bit more on Nero Wave editor but it still sounds quite compared to other CD's. I really cant find a way to push it up higher because it begins to distort. Any insight on what I am doing wrong? Also any ideas on what to purchase for a decent mastering program? Thanks for all the help.

Jun 11, 2007 02:49 am To get your main mix volume up to the level of commercial CDs, you need to master the recording (in other words the mix down). This is done completely seperate from the recording process. And you need to use a maximizer to boost the levels.
Some examples of plugins that work as maximizers are the L1 and L2 and L3 Ultramaximizers from waves as well as the PSP Vintage Warmer. I belive there may be some free ones out there, but i'm not sure.

But yeah, ultramaximizers from Waves are the bomb...
Jun 11, 2007 04:38 pm That Har-bal program looks awesome.
Jun 11, 2007 05:32 pm it is awesome, it's cut my mastering time by about 80%.

Jun 11, 2007 11:52 pm Im glad to see the support for har-bal that is the program I was looking at. I will look up the maximizers too thanks for help.
Jun 12, 2007 12:22 pm Try the George Young Limiter before anything else, it's free and will give you an idea of what you will be getting.
I like Ozone from Izotope. I've also recently started like the Vintage Warmer. I've never been a fan of Har-Bal (shall I just leave now :( )
