Recording a group singer

For individual vocal,
singer will wear a headphone while recording.

However,
if I want to record a group of people(may 10-15),
it is not realistic to give each people a headphone, right?

So how can they listen to music?
If I play it aloud in speaker,
microphone will record those noise also.

Please help, thanks~~~

I have the samson s-phone headphone amp, it's got 12 outputs.

It's pretty darn nice.

*edit* you could record a few at a time too, instead of all at once.

if you've got good monitors (not home speakers) i've heard of a trick where you can set them across from eachother and facing eachother, send a mono mix to each one with the polarity reversed and (in theory) most of the sound from the speakers will be cancelled out....

the key is placement....they both have to be EXACTLY the same distance from the mic.

otherwise...yeah, you're gonna need a headphone amp.

I've heard of that trick, WYD. Have you tried it? I'm curious as to how well it works. I'd think that you'd have to be very precise when it comes to the placement of the monitors and microphone. That does sound pretty cool though.

Remember to reverse the polarity on just one of the speakers. If they're both reversed they'll still be in phase.

I've recorded my high school choir singing to the band's recording by having two vocalists with headphones directing the rest of the singers. They were all well rehearsed on the music beforehand and it went off without a hitch.

That was.... 38 years ago.

And to answer the question to WYD's statement. Yes it does work. But as stated you have to be exact, or it will not work.
