Problems w/ Reason 3.0

Hey y'all,

I'm having trouble using Reason 3.0. I loaded it on my computer, no problem. Unfortunately, it sounds beyond terrible. Whenever I play any sound it is completely distorted. Also, every time I trigger a sound, such as say a hi-hat for example, it plays the sound twice, with the repeat coming a few milliseconds or so after the initial sound. However, if I create something and mix it down to an audio file and play that through Windows Media Player, it sounds great. Any ideas what the problem could be?

I'm running this on a compaq presario with an AMD 64-bit Athlon processor w/ 1.5 gigs of RAM, so system resources shouldn't be an issue. OS is XP SP2. Sound card is a Soundblaster 24-bit live. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well if its a few milliseconds later, sounds like a latency problem.

It's the sound card without question.

There are ways to reduce the latency but you still won't get very far.

Time for a new card.

You can run two if you want the SB for DVD's and games and such.

ok explain in detail how your system is hooked up...including all audio and midi in's and out's.

that'll help alot, and if ya just put it your profile, you won't hafta explain again...i can help ya, if i knew more about your setup, mainly are you using reason as your main app? what are you using to get your midi data into the computer? and how is your assigned to your physical outputs?

Uh, at least one more time . . .

Yeah, what Bleak said. Absolutely its the sound-
card. The one you have is ok for games and playing back music files, but any program like Reason is going to need way more than what it offers.

ok, so, i don't really know what the problem is, but chances are you prolly don't need to ditch the soundcard off the bat. I use an (old!!!) sblive along with Reason 2.3 and everything works hunky dory.

Yep, if you are going through a mixer you may be getting a feedback loop. Another may be you have the What you hear box checked in the windows sound control panel. But odds are really good it is the latency buffer and some other odd setting in Reason that are not correctly set. Such as the buffer is far to low and causing the distortion.

that's definately a feedback loop make sure you're not using the 'main out' on your mixer to go into the 'line in' on your computer.

if you wanna get audio into the computer, tap the channel inserts (if you got 'em) or use a sub/aux out.
