While working on some new songs I decided to take a break a do another Beatle cover. This was all done in one evening except mixing, so it's not perfect (like anything I do is LOL) I recently bought Sonar 6 and this is the first project I've completed in it and I'd appreciate any comments on the mix/sound quality.

Thanks for listening and any comments you might have,

Dog,

Sounds great to me! As always, harmonies sound awesome...Screamin' guitar solo...George Harrison's got nothing on you. Your drumming is getting better all the time, and that sounds like a pretty difficult bass line that you've laid down. You make it sound so damn easy!

All in all, a very good cover of a very good song! It's goin' on the iPod!

I agree with Jim, these harmonies are fantastic olddog. Even if not perfect as you say, I hear everything very clear and clean, I really like the mix. Bravo!!

Great! You didn't use too much compression, and the mix is excellent. I turned it up and backed away from the speakers, and it was a good "live" sound.

That's what high fidelity is all about. Good job.

Hey OldDog, been a while since I've seen you around here.

Unfortunately I'm having issues listening to .mp3s over the internet on my new computer so I'm gonna have to wait till I conquer that problem before I can give a listen.

My 'required listens' list is getting longer by the day! I still have a couple of Jim's songs to listen to when I can too.

Thanks Jim, you're no slouch on harmonies either! Only hard part on the bass was me keeping on the beat. LOL

I appreciate the listen and feedback CptTripps. Glad to hear the harmonies sound okay, I've been experimenting with custom scales on my VWorks to improve the harmonies. The low part is me, the high part is the VWorks. Sonar seems to sound different to me, don't know if it's better but different. :)

Herb, thanks I did try to resist the temptation to pull that threshold level down on the maximizer and keep some life in it, glad it came thru. :) Thanks for the listen!

Hey I hooked up a pair of headphones to my laptop and managed to get to play this.

Wow OldDog this is great. vocals are great, and the backups came out great as well. Great guitar solo and I love the tone on that guitar as well. Is this all the Boss GT? If so then I think that you've got that unit figured out for sure!

Rhythm guitars are a little hot in the midrange and the mix as a whole sounds hot in the upper mids, but I think that's a common difference in our ears. Mine always seem dull in the midrange to you and yours always seem hot in the midrange to me :-D I think we both have different flavors of hearing damage hehehe.

Oh I hated to see it end so soon! Great job man. You really got the volume maximized in that one for sure, and everything retained its space in the mix instead of turning to mud, which is what usually happens to me when I crank up the master gain.

You still using Ozone for mixdowns? Whatever you're using I need to get a hold of because it (and you) does a great job on the mastering.

Thanks Tadpui! Yep that's all the GT6, all the guitars on this one are variations on one patch, which is my favorite patch at the moment.

I definitley have some hearing loss in the mid range and it does affect my mixes. The mix I almost uploaded had less in that range and it just seemed to lose the life in it but it probably would have been about right for most. :D I might just put that one up. I'm using Ozone 3 & Harbal for the final processing, I've been very happy with both, probably the best 2 items I've purchased for tweaking the final mix. Ozone does a nice job on individual tracks as well but is a bit CPU intensive to use on more than 1 or 2 tracks.

I also have been fighting the threshold level addiction. With therapy and support from my family, I'm finally able to control myself.

OD, damn man that is fantastic! If I could make the thumbs up be 10 it would be. You know I love your covers from that era and this one is killer. I remember covering this tune way back when and we never sounded that good. Your touch of originality is just enough to set it apart from the original but respectfully stay true to it as well. I do love the way you mixed the vox on it as well, absolutely killer. The guitars had that old Vox type sound too very spiffy if ya ask me.

The drums were killer, fresh sounding and tight. And ya the bass line was killer as well.

But indeed this one will be another of your greatest hits to crank up in the car.

Hey olddog! Man I have posted before that I love your tunes and you can add this one to the list. It sounds great. I also really like your choices in the cover songs you do. You dont pick the obvious tunes that everyone covers, Its been years since I have heard this song. Great work!

Hue, funny you should mention the slide, cause 1 of the 5 songs I'm working on does in fact have some in it. Now I just have to finish it/them :D

Bleak, thanks man, glad you like it. This one is off the Rubber Soul album, 1 of the best they put IMHO.

Noize thanks for the kind words! This one I did stray more from the original than I usually do even if mostly just instrumentation, kind of just came out that way from the stuff I'm working on at the moment. For one of the rare times I thought my harmonies and vocal were decent enough to have some fun panning them :)

Diemusik, thanks much! Yep there is so much great music from the 60's that even The Beatles did that many haven't heard and those are usually the ones I seem to get the itch to do. Glad you enjoyed it!

Bonus! Just got back on the site after about a three week hiatus, and this was the first thing I came across.

Really well done. This was always one of my favorite Lennon songs when I was but a young lad. Excellently played by you, sir. And sung with the flat menace that the song demands! Righteous.
