Suggestions For Next Recording Software?!

Hey guys,

So for about a year now I've been using a Presonus Firebox with my Mac Powerbook G4 with great results. I've done projects in both Garageband and Logic Express. However I've come to a crossroad. I upgraded to a Presonus Firepod for the holidays and cant wait to record with it but I've been having problems in Logic Express where it will crash easily without many tracks/effects running (system overload problem). Having done my research it seems like there is not a huge way around this so I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions for Mac compatible multitrack recording software (thats not protools, because my firepod wont work with it). Any ideas?

Cubase 4 and of course Logic. I loath both programs, but for the Mac there are not a lot of alternative's. There are as well some free ones out there as well though that are pretty good. I know Audacity just ported for the Mac and is pretty dang good for free.

Here is a link to a page that has freeware, shareware and some other stuff. www.hitsquad.com/smm/mac/RECORDING/

I have also heard the Bias Deck is supposed to be getting much better as well.

Have you ever used it Tony? It is kinda lame and very lightweight. But it works and for some that is what is important.

I'm hoping that tracktion 2 is going to work out for me,on the mac. But I don't have any first hand experience with it yet. Maybe someone here does.

I've used Tracktion on Windows and it's a very capable application, you should dig it.

www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=607 is my two cents on the application.

My Two Cents:

I've used GarageBand for almost two years now (recorded two CDs) and I have yet to find anything that I can't do with it. (Except I use Har-Bal for mastering).

Granted, there's probably a lot of stuff that I could be missing out on that I just don't know about. Nevertheless, GarageBand has served its purpose for this home recording hobbyist.

thanks to all the suggestions, right now im sending in something to apple for a logic express uprgrade which will hopefully fix all the problems ive been having with it. I have to say though I did some test recordings with my firepod in garageband and it kicks ***, couldnt be better

as far as garageband goes i agree with guitar_jim, i've taken it to great lengths and it really is a very capable program if you take advantage of certain things. just my two cents.

thanks all!
