fading out a song using midi

Hi

I am using Cubase LE and I am trying to fade the tracks at the end of the song and I am using audio and midi. I figured out how to fade the audio tracks, but can't seem to figure out how to fade the midi tracks. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

First off, how is the midi being played back? An external synth or software synth? IF it is software synths then the synth track should be an audio track and be able to be faded right along with the regular audio tracks. If it is an external synth, then you should be able to automate a fade on the midi tracks own volume controls. If you have more then one midi track then you will have to do this with each track in Cubase. Sonar I can automate a master midi and fade them all at once. Dont think you can in cubase, but not sure.

Let me know if this helps. Otherwise let me know exactly how you are doing the midi and I'll try and work out some details for you.

I think you'll have to make the MIDI track into an audio track, then you'll be able to do all the same stuff to it that you can do with any other audio track. It's weird how Cubase makes you do that.

I'd just do a mixdown and fade the stereo track.

3 ways as far as i can tell. 2 of them said already

1) dont do any fading till u have the 2 track mix down

2) convert each midi track to audio and fade them normally

3) use expression - i use cubase sx and dont know cubase le at all, but if it works in a similar way you should be able to go to the midi edit screen (where u step enter and edit the midi data notes) and then youll have an icon where you can select the appropriate midi controller on (e.g. velocity, panning, EXPRESSION)

Expression is just a way of creating differnt volumes throughout a midi piece (such as volume swells and fade ins/outs). once you have expression selected you should be able to use the pencil tool, u just just the window at the bottom to edit the volume of the track at that moment in time (0 of silent, 127 for full volume).

then u can just create a downwards corrolation to fade out the tracks - unfortunatly u will have to fade each track individually

i had a horrible time when i had to do a midi backing track for billie jean by michael jackson, took me ages to individually fade out all the tracks.
hope this helps

another idea:

automate the master fader at the end of the song....i don't think i'd fade each track individually as this will change the balance (your mix) in a not so good way...

i ALWAYS do fadeouts durring the mastering process with an extended stereo mix
