Condenser mic help!

Hey, I'm an newbie with equipment and I'm having some problems. I just got my first condenser mic ever which is an AKG Perception 200. I plugged it into an amp with a 1/4" straight to XLR cable that belongs to the live mic that came with my P.A. system. No sound. I read the manual and evidently there is phantom power involved. Do I need to get one of these? I don't really want to spend another 50 bucks after just getting the mic but if I gotta, I gotta.

yeppers you, my friend, need a microphone preamp that supplies phantom power, yer lookin' at roughly another $100 purchase....no way around it, well if ya have a mixer you might be okay.

My PA has a switch on the back to activate the phantom power. You may just get lucky.

you can get a cheapo mixer to supply phantom power if you need to...

Or there are even stand-alone phantom power units available.

This was the first one I saw, just to prove to myself that they do exist. Shop around and see what all you can find:
