OK Folks
DELAY, one of my favourite guitar effects is never better used, IMHO, than by U2's - Edge.
So, I stumbled upon THIS great piece of information here:
www.amnesta.net/edge_delay/
This describes, in detail, how The Edge does it!
Very cool...yet to read right thru but very interesting.
Whilst writing, I am looking for some cool delay settings to mess with so if anyone has some cool sets, chuck up the details here!
Cheers
Coco.

Feb 03, 2006 01:08 pm I'd be no where without "delay". I used a Digitech Digidelay pelal a TON when I played live (reggae/dub/ska). I always combined that with a classic cry baby wah-wah on a clean guitar sound and I could get some really interesting things going. In the studio i use it often on everything from guitar and organ to vocals and drums. Finding those perfect settings really matters on the specific tune, tone, tempo, etc. One of my favorite effects with a delay is getting a some good layers going, jacking up the feedback to get a constant signal, then turn down (or up) the delay speed. That produces a really cool distored, flange/pitch bend effect. Only really works on analog units (some digitals will work). You think the edge had some interesting delay settings? You should look into these old reggae/dub producers (King Tubby, Lee Perry, King Jammy, Scientist). These guys would do some crazy stuff with space echos and echoplexes.
Feb 03, 2006 01:09 pm I don't use delay much and I can't stand the Edge...
Feb 03, 2006 01:15 pm i love short fast delays on combined with a good reverb....use the verb for the tail and experament with stereo delays for the early reflections...start with a time of around 5-30 ms panned hard left and right with only one or two repeats then mix it with the reverb...it's amazing how such a small delay will make the sound jump out at ya. for drums i like to use a reverse reverb set in time with the song (usually in 5's for a 4/4 song) then mix it way low, and it'll add a nice 'groove slide' effect to the beat....cakewalk's stereo delay has a setting called 'outward' that i tend to go to alot...it's got shorter delays tward the center then longer delays panned harder...very spacey!
Feb 03, 2006 04:05 pm Brighton Rock Solo live at wembley, best use of delay ever... the new Queen + paul rodgers DVD has one AWESOME guitar solo as well

Feb 04, 2006 01:08 am coco, go listen to some Robin Trower. The best use of subtle delay ever. He was doing it long before the Edge was out of diapers. There are others as well that have been around for ages. To tired to think of them right now though.
