Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me with connecting the above items. All the relevent drivers for the Radium are installed and its recieving power from the usb cable. But when I try to use it as a controll surface in reason 3.0 it doesnt detect it and when I manually look for it reason only trys to see if its connected by a midi port which my computer doesnt have and I bought it because it connects via usb
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thank you

Did you connect the USB before starting your computer? If not, restart the computer and launch Reason. I've had the same problem in the past and this seems to fix it.

Ive been trying that Soundmind?? and ive tried it with all 7 USB ports but no luck,
reason still just looks for a midi port to connect to the radium even though it knows it is USB based

Will I need to buy a cheap sound card with a joystick/midi port and then connect through the midi din connectors on the radium?

the radium will still connect to the computer via USB for its power so this option seems a bit of a waste of money

Thanks in advance for advice anyone can supply

Just browsing through the pdf manual and in another section(not the one about control surfaces)it mentions that another application(running or not)can sometimes grab all available midi inputs and that reason will not see the control surface you have connected
So ill see what I can do and report back

I hope something works as reason without a control surface is as much use as a one legged man in an *** kickin contest

I use the Radium 49 and Reason 2.5. I don't remember how I got reason to detect the Radium. I'll look into it and try to get back to you (though I don't know how different 2.5 vs 3 is.

KB, you will need to go into options/midi and make sure you have the radium selected as the midi port. Then you will be able to assign the radium as the midi port in a track in Reason. I know several apps dont warn you that there is no midi port drivers selected and Reason is one of them. All Cakewalks apps warn you when there is no midi device selected.

Yes, options or preferances will be it. If you cant see the drivers in Reason then they might not be installed proper. Do you have another application you can test in to see if they show up?

I would go double check and make sure you have the current driver version at M-Audios web site and maybe do an uninstall and then reinstall the drivers.

The unit can have power without the drivers being installed properly, so dont assume because it has power that the drivers are good to go.

[quote]reason still does not see the radium

I have not been following this thread much, but, with that said I think it's more of a Reason issue than a Radium issue...

Many times applications have options/preferences you need to go in and activate the MIDI ports and/or devices that you want to use within the app, have you looked for such preferences?

For example, with Sonar, I have to activate which MIDI ins and outs I want to have available within the app as well as which devices...

dB in the advanced midi preferences tab it asks me to select which midi ports to use and in the drop down menu theres the option of
no midi ports selected or
no midi ports selected
so you can see how im stuck

Oh, yeah, OK, I can see the problem there.

I wish I had Reason so I could help you out, but I don't. I do have a Radium, and it's always worked flawlessly for me...

Have you contacted the Reason peeps (isn't it Propellerhead Software?) about this...or checked to see if Reason has any updates/fixes available for it. My gut is telling me this is a Reason issue...

Yep, REason is Propellerhead. They do have pretty good tech support I have heard.

From your last post ther KB it almost sounds like there is one more step beyound the drop down menu you are using. Is there a drivers tab possibly that you need to go select the actual midi drivers in first before going to the page you see the message at. Just a thought. As it is telling you that they arent selected yet. So I am assuming there must be another page somehwere in there.

And I as well use a Radium 49 in here and on my sons box. No problems with either setup.

Heres an update guys

Ive re-installed Reason and the Radium no change but I think the problem is elsewhere.

Reason tells me there is no midi inputs on my pc
(and there are no joystick/midi ports)

The Radium is connected by USB , all the USB ports on my PC are USB 2.0 could the radium be using USB 1 and therefore it is getting power from the pc but is not recognised by Reason?

I installed some of the free software that came with the radium and they all say as soon as they are opened that there is no midi input on this pc.

If nothing works soon ill have to take the radium back to the store and try something else

Thanks for all your help guys

Let me ask you this first, have you tried talking to M-Audio or Propellerhead about this problem, I think we have exhausted or options here, I recommend you try tech support.

if you already have I apologize...

Awaiting on M-Audios reply,
Propellerhead tell me they think it`s a driver issue with the radium.
I know the radiums drivers are sound ive downloaded the latest ones from m-audio and also rolled back to the older ones that came on the disc with the radium and theres no difference.

I really think its the PC or the radium is broken.

Well, it is pretty standard for the software peopl to blame the hardware and the hardware people to blame the software, but it never hurts to try...

Have you successfully gotten other controllers to work? I guess at this point it doesn't kinda look like Radiums issue if it doesn't work in anything...perhaps the store will trade you another and try it...the Radium is a great control for a good price, seems a shame to not try another first.

That is great to hear KB. I figured after everything you tried it had to be balmed on the hardware. Not that it is always the case. But by the symptoms it showed it sure pointed that direction. Glad the music store was willing to help ya out as well.

Enjoy the new toy.
