Guys.. (I know this answer is dependant somewhat on my gear.. sound card and mic etc) but if I am using Cubase SE along with Adobe Audition, plus the Waves Platinum bundle as well as a host of other plug-ins, if I knew really how to use compression and could EQ properly and fully understood mixing.. is there any reason I couldn't make a pretty decent mixdown and even master in AA of any particular song? Burn it down to my CD drive right from the wav file and get a song that could be playing in a cd player or stereo that sounded clean and tight?

Sorry for the run-on!

Thats what I thought DB. The reason I ask is beacuse I am working on a song currently. I wish I could post it somehow as an mp3 for you to hear and give me a critique, but the site I usually use is down. Anyway, I am having major problems getting a decent mix, so I 'm not quite sure what I am doing wrong. my ears aren't quite as trained yet.

read the eq article on this site. That was the biggest eye opener I had as I was learning. But other than that, yeah read up on how compression works (attack and release aren't insignificant) and practice makes person. Yeah buddy!

Dude, if you want proof, check out dragonorchids profile and the "unnamed song" by apollo drive.

That is an amazing mix, mixed in adobe audition and recorded with a digi 001. Mastered with T racks. No waves plug ins there bud!
