Hey guys. I think I am going to invest in a new audio interface. I like the idefa of getting an m-audio because then I can run pro tools m-powered. Which would be good to learn so that when I go to real studios I wlil be familiar with the software. They also bundle in ableton live 4 lite. DOes anyone know the difference between this and the real version?

I have a 1.2 GHZ pentium 3 with 500 ram. Do you think I can run 4 simultaneous inputs or will this be too much?

THanks for the advice.

I don't recall for sure, but the bundled apps usually have the primary limitation of track count. You computer should be able to handle 4 just fine, tho a little boost in RAM would be nice.

Don't think m-Powered ProTools will prepare you for any real ProTools, any m-Powered reviews I have read have been less than flattering...

my previous daw was a 1.3Ghz intel with 512MB RAM and I'd do 8 tracks at a time... would start to choke at 16 though... hard to get past 32. inless I didn't need to worry about real time mixing (which I didn't) and then it's do 30 channels with effects (reverb $ compression) "ok"

Gotcha. But what is there any way to put more ram on the motherboard even though it shouldn't be able to handle it in theory. I have heard that you can just put more on and it works anyway...

oh well. I tried it anyway and it worked. Used a 500 ram instead of the 250 oe (since the 125 is part of the mother board and couldnt change it) - and so now I have more ram than the max. I rock!
