I've pretty much decided to go with an RME card (Hammerfall DSP 9632 or 9652) but I'm still stuck on finding a low cost mixer/converter for it. My budget is pretty tight and I'm wondering if there are devices I can pick up used in the $200 range.
This is for my Linux system, I am open to other options but it will need to be on the ALSA soundcard list www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/index.php#alsa-top\
Cash on hand is $400 :)

Dec 26, 2005 10:18 am For "cheap", the Behringer ADA 8000 can't be beat. Eight pre-amp inputs at 44.1 or 48k, eight line-outs (not "bridged" internally), rackmountable. Another option, if you have a mixer with pre-amps would be the use of an SM Pro A08, which is very similar to the Behringer, but without the pre-amps. From there, you can always start saving for that Apogee...

Dec 26, 2005 12:41 pm Right now I am leaning towards the 9632 as it is 192khz capable and has analog I/O that can be expanded to 16 channels (I think) via the AEB8-I expansion board... and to start with I would probably get an Tascam TM-D100 mixer until I can afford the addon cards.
