Don't know how long you've been doing it, but I just noticed that we now have titles next to out member name. Kinda cool. Think maybe you made a mistake calling me a Senior Engineer, not sure I deserve that much credit, but I think its cool. Right on.

May 18, 2002 04:08 am that may have something to do with post count.. not sure though.
i think he added it a couple days ago.
May 18, 2002 06:59 am ya, it's a post count thing, the number for each level may change periocially, or the number of title may change periocically...if you have any titles you think would be cool, mention them if I recall right now we have:
Newbie
Apprentice
Intern
Junior Engineer
Senior Engineer
Producer

May 19, 2002 09:12 pm Noise, you are a stich! And you see the future! It happened! Internship! I think I will hang out at this level for awhile if that's in the starz. All that credibility etc. connected with engineer might lead a newbe astray. Ipprentice and intern fit!
May 19, 2002 09:18 pm I may have to adjust the number of posts between titles, people are moving too fast!
May 19, 2002 10:37 pm yea.. jack those things way up
id space them 25 for the first level.. 100 for the 2nd.. 200 for 3rd.
just suggestions.
May 20, 2002 05:08 am OK, I jacked them up, what I really need is more title though...I am already at the highest, I would like to have more titles to go around...
suggestions anyone?

May 20, 2002 09:10 pm Well, guy's like George Martin, Alan Parsons, Glen Ballard, Eddie Kramer, Phil Ramone, and Arif Mardin, and a select few other's are known as WORLD CLASS PRODUCER'S. That could be the top level. You could throw in (Technician) after Intern, and I do like Janitor, that could come after newbie.
May 20, 2002 09:22 pm Tecnician, I like that, I can do that, Janitor I should do, but I just don't know if new people to our community would appreciate the humor the same way we do :-)
And I do agree, Producer should be the top, I just don't want everyone to get there quickly...myself included...

May 20, 2002 09:46 pm Ya, good idea'a but now look what I have done. I have been reduced to technician status. Oh now my friend's will all call me a putz. Well, I guess it's not all bad.
May 21, 2002 08:29 pm The lowest lever should be drummer.
See? I can make drummer jokes too.

May 21, 2002 08:40 pm Yeah, it sucks to be demoted! What will I tell all my friends? lol I like the janitor thing. What was that old saying, "F%$k 'em if they can't take a joke!" (I wonder who said that, I think it's from a movie, but not sure) ANyways, as far as titles, you could possibly have an assistant status as a sort of intermediate between levels. IE. Assistant Engineer or Assistant producer, that would give you a little more space inbetween. I know you got like junir and senior, so those are kinda the same thing, but just a thought.
May 21, 2002 09:48 pm ya, maybe instead of junior and senior it should be Assistant Engineer and Engineer? That's a decent idea, but I don't think I wanna do that for the Producer rank...
Maybe I will toss janitor in there for a few posts...not a long ranking, but a little just for a joke...I prefer "Joke 'em if they can't take a f$#%" :-) New twist on an old joke...

May 22, 2002 10:21 pm Ya, when ya first sign up your a janiter, then after a few post's ya become a newbie. I like that idea. It give's em a reason to wanna come back, and after that their hooked.

I have to mop now.
Jun 05, 2002 10:13 pm hehehehe, keep the studio nice and clean and pretty soon you will be a "cable puller" ;-)

Jun 06, 2002 07:13 am Laugh it up fuzzball, I think you will be a Cable Puller in 2 more posts
;-) hehehe
I think Noize and I agreed to put cable puller after Apprentice, but I can't remember, and I just added it last night...musta been those beers...

Jun 06, 2002 08:27 am My niece is a light bird and just got transfered to the pentagon for the remainder of her career. She anticipates making coffee for the generals until she retires! Talk about top heavy! (not her fool! the army!)
How about Gofer? Maybe around aprentice, cable puller.
Jun 06, 2002 08:32 am We talked about that, but a Gofer is actually kinda what an apprentice is...they are sorta the same, maybe I will stick that in there though...keep the suggestions coming tho, I would like to have as many titles as possible...no matter how many I add, I am satill always a producer, I want to give myself something to strive for! Maybe I will just increase the post count...but I don't want to wait too long between titles, it takes some of the fun out that way...

Jun 06, 2002 11:31 am Personally, instead of newbie, I'd have FNG. (F'ing New Guy). That's what I was called when I started my last job. TOok people almost 6 months before they knew what my name was! It just sorta fits in a place where there is a lot of turn-over. ANyways, I like cable puller as well. Make 'em slop through the trenches before they get any respect! lol Just kidding, it is funny though, adds some humor to the site.
Jun 06, 2002 11:44 am that's funny, boviously the f word ain't gonna fly, but it does get me thinking in that generic "new dude" sense...
Jun 06, 2002 01:32 pm Is there anyway to label someone "New Guy" and have that stick until someone else joins? I think that could get interesting... just a thought.
Jun 06, 2002 01:34 pm And who you callin' fuzball?
Jun 06, 2002 01:44 pm you, fuzzball ;-)
hehehe
OK, now you are not a newbie, but a "Roadie" (I am disgusted I didn't think of that earlier) newbie is soooooo generic and the post numbers have been modefied a little bit...and when you hit 1000 messages, well, just wait and see ;-)

Jun 06, 2002 09:13 pm Hey look, I got de-moted again. My life is really goin down-hill. hehehehe Check out this little tidbit I found about the description of (Assistant).
Assistant Engineer
The "assistant" in "assistant engineer" perfectly describes the job's function. Assistants (or seconds, as they are also known) set up the recording studio for a session, handle the cables properly, place microphones, and assist the first engineer throughout the session.
If you exhibit technical aptitude as an assistant engineer and your boss finds out that you know how to "fix things," you might be groomed for a tech or maintenance gig.
And you guy's all thought maybe the job would be glamourus. :-)
Well back to work for me, I gotta alota post's to get to the top. And at this rate, I probly never will. Oh Well.

Jun 06, 2002 09:19 pm Oh, and hey Dingo. Fuzzball is used as an endearing term here. I was even called fuzzball, as were my 2 son's even B4 dB and I really knew each other very well. Now if he refered to you as a schlep on the other hand, that would be a bit derrogatory.
Jun 06, 2002 11:04 pm Yeah... but how did I get dubed fuzzball? Not that I'm complaining I just wanna know the story behind my new nickname and such.
And my 2 cents... what does a roadie have to do with a recording studio? Or maybe that's the point. I dunno... it's late and I'm tired. Lol.
Jun 06, 2002 11:07 pm Oh and when do I get to be a cable puller?
Jun 07, 2002 05:18 am do you really think theband carries their own gear into the studio? roadie suits the studio as much as gigging.
As far as the nickname well, if you really wanna know here ya go. Noize and I met when I started to work as the technician at our local Computer Renaissance store, right next door was a Music Go Round store. A mutual friend or ours managed them both (and he actually stops by this site every now and then) he had to pet phrases he used, one was "laugh it up, fuzzball" whenever anybody made a joke at his expense and the other was "I have a good idea, you don't you shut the hell up" I always thought they were both kinda funny and have used them from time to time and whenever I do Noize and I have a good chuckle remembering the good ol' days.
<suckin' up>
So you see, by saying that I was really figuratively pulling you into the world of Noize and I and making you part of our insiders ;-)
</suckin' up>
Jun 07, 2002 10:33 am Well MY old band carried all of our stuff into the studio... but hey, we were poor. When we were all living together I think the main item for lunch and dinner was a piece of cheese on a piece of bread... I don't think you could call it a sandwitch seing as there was only one slice of bread. But anyway, thanks for the nickname. Maybe I should change from Dingo to Fuzzball... hmm... but then I'd have to be a studio janitor...
Jun 07, 2002 10:42 am no, you can change your name at any ol' time, doesn't afect your profile, login, post numbers or anything...I built this community planning for people getting weird and wanting to change their name from time to time, a couple people have already...
Jun 07, 2002 12:20 pm Fuzzball it is then...
Jun 07, 2002 12:26 pm hehehehehehehehehehe, that rocks!
It's really good thing peeps around here have a sense of humor ;-)
Jun 07, 2002 03:42 pm Did you ever look into my idea for the "new guy" title that stays until someone else joins?
Jun 07, 2002 10:06 pm Ya, it's a good idea, but that requires a little more coding than just adding new titles :-)

Jun 08, 2002 01:40 pm On a lighter note. We didn't make a lot of money in a couple of the band's I was in, but we did allow for extra beer. And that was how we got our gear carried in to most place's. A roadie is not necasseraly a guy who gets paid and is a proffessional.
Pick a couple of friend's who you can trust with your gear, and promise them something free at the gig's, and give them special treatment now and then, and viola you have a couple of roadie's.
Oh ya, and don't foget to mention their name's once in awhile at gig's and such, that keep's them feeling good.

Jun 08, 2002 09:15 pm Lol... thanks Noize.
Jul 04, 2002 10:03 am I thought intern was before cable puller??
Jul 04, 2002 10:25 pm alright.. help me out.. who was fuzzball originally? after reading through this thread, i realize that they are not a new face, but an oldtimer renamed. =P
slow, why yes i am.

Jul 05, 2002 02:40 am I don't trust anyone else with my gear for some reason. I feel like I'm the only one who can set it up properly.
Jul 05, 2002 10:27 am That was random... but I know how you feel.
Jul 05, 2002 01:47 pm actually he was the one staying on topic.. you just have to scroll up a bit to see it =P
im the same way.. i dont trust anyone with my gear or the way i set it up.
Jul 05, 2002 02:40 pm If I trusted people with my stuff I would be "dB Rentals" ...but I don't so I am not...
Jul 05, 2002 08:04 pm Yeah that was on topic... I feel dumb. Anyone for tennis?
Jan 25, 2003 02:20 am So no one wants to play tennis?
Haha... I was trying to remember my origonal name when I came here... I remembered Fuzzball, but I couldn't remember what was before that, so I looked up this thread to find out... here's a breakdown.
Dingo > Fuzzball > No One's Hero
Jan 25, 2003 02:47 am man, i remember those titles... man, that was even before i ever signed up, i was just a "lurker" back then. diggin up the old stuff huh? i love reading backwards into these ancient threads.
Jan 25, 2003 07:05 am Actually I have considered bringing them back those titles now that I have streamlinesd my code some much...somehow it just doesn't sit at the top of my "to do list" tho...
Jan 25, 2003 09:55 am i wanna be a "session musician".. how much does that pay?
Jan 25, 2003 02:50 pm Hahaha... I'm the master of digging up old threads.
I want to be "Keeper of the cheese" or "Official yak shaver."

Jan 25, 2003 03:19 pm hrmmm...where are these titles? i cant find them...
Jan 25, 2003 03:26 pm Dan, I took the title out a long time ago to increase page speed, seemed like a waste of a good database hit to get those titles, but with my improved coding and such they may work their way back eventually...it was tites based on total post count of the person...so in order to get them I had to query to see how many posts each person has...
Jan 25, 2003 03:59 pm hey db,
You could alwasy create a link on the "My Profile" page to "Apply for a Promotion" which would then make the query and then store the title as part of the profile. Not exactly the most seamless way to do it, but it would bring back the titles and cut down on the database hits. Just a thought.
Jan 26, 2003 07:35 am hmmmmmm, interesting idea...actually, what I plan on doing is adding another piece to the websites personal customizations where people can add their own title, as well as their own greating on the front page rather than "Hello, xx, Welcome Back" you could customize that too...
your idea is decent tho, I am a sucker for dynamics tho ;-) I like things built on the fly...hehehe, it costs me sometimes tho.
Jan 27, 2003 04:46 pm Funny thing is, after reading all these posts, and especially Noize tracking his demotion status, I ain't seeing these titles !! All I see is 'tbone member, dB masters, administrator, same as I always saw. Do I have to stick a damn quarter in the puter somehow to see this stuff? C'mon, guys!! I wanna play, too !!
Ed (and I don't know what the heck I am!)
Jan 27, 2003 04:49 pm Never mind.........I have to admit that I may have skipped the bottom few posts. Namely the one that says you ain't doin titles no mo !! My bad.
Quit diggin up old stuff!!

Jan 27, 2003 05:01 pm well...if i was total post count i would skyrocket up there, just cause i ask too many questions!
Jan 27, 2003 05:05 pm I hear ya db with the dynamics. I definitely prefer to have things that way too. I guess it just has to come down to "bang for the buck." I mean really, does it actually add any significant value to the site if there are titles dynamically generated for each user? Probably not.
