latency with soundblaster live 24bit

I've been recording for a while now using Magix audio studio 2004delux with no problems. recently I "upgraded" to a cheap Soundblaster live 24bit, and now I can't get my tracks in sync. I've got the most recent driver, I tried reducing the buffer size and number. Are there any known issues with this card?

Not sure of the exact models of SB Live, but some a while back claimed to be 24 bit but really were not, Creative got sued and lost over the deal. So I would be sure you got a current one that is really 24 bit.

Also, are you recording at 24? Perhaps try recording at 16 bit and see if that helps. it seems you have a good enough PC to do the job...it's beefier than mine and mine works...

Maybe, just maybe, consider taking back the SB and spending the money on an m-audio audiophile service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear it's only $100 and FAR more worthy for recording purposes than any SB Live. Not sure what you spent on the SB, but figured I'd toss that idea out there...

I'm not exactly sure what you mean... but it sound as though you have a midi score playing or a prerecorded audio track and you put another track in ... you play in sync with what you hear but on playback the new track is delayed a little bit. The software "should" automatically take care of that delay...you may simply try just moving the track in sync manually.. if it "won't sync" up at all then I think that would be whats known as clock jitter...basically the card is interpreting 44.1khz as a different clock frequency than it did the previous take. souncards are "crystal sync" in that they have a little osscilating crystal that tell then what 44.1khz is... they arn't exact so one take it could think 44.1khz is actually 44.05khz and the next 44.15khz...which would adjoust the final length of the recording.

If you are dealing with audio track's zek's clock idea can be something that might be causing it for sure. Are they track's that have been previously recorded? Are you trying to add new track's? The SB clock may not be keeping the previous track's timing correctly. As well it might be bad enough all the track's go out of sync.

Thanks for the input. To clarify my process, I usually cut up a sampled drum solo and play that back on headphones while I lay down a bass track. Then I listen to those tracks while recording guitar...etc. So my issue now is that I'll play back the tracks and they will slowly get off-beat and become intollerable after about a minute. The feedback I seem to be getting is that my $25 soundcard sucks hard. I might re-install my old one or try a third party driver untill I "upgrade" again. What are some more recomendations for cards under $100?

M-Audio Audiophile 2496 or the ESI Juli@. Both are in the $100.00 range.
