Downloading VST's

Hey Guys,

A while ago I asked about a downloadable vst reverb unit. I downloaded the voxengo old skool reverb and it just sits in its folder waiting to be unzipped.

When i unzzip it it just has two readme files and a voxengo dll. I have direct x 9. How do I get it to open up into its interface mode. It's not on the vst list in CEP.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong as usual.

Many thanks,

Flashman

Make sure to put the .dll file in whatever directory CEP knows as your VST plugin directory.

I can't remember if CEP makes you register or otherwise refresh the list of available plugins...maybe search thru the help files to see about that.

But then you should just have to restart CEP and it should show up as an effect in the list.

Also check out GlaceVerb and the reverb in the Classic Series for some good free VST reverbs.

Thanks for the advices man but I don't know what directory CEP uses. I downloaded it (sshh!) and there is no folder or anything that I could move it to.

I do have to refresh the list like you say but when I do it detects some plug in that I've never installed. And no the .dll files, probably because I can't seem to install them. aarrrgh.

The help file is brief on the subject.

Help me Home Recording Connection, you're my only hope...

Ah, didn't realize it was pirated. Discussing warez around here is a good way to get the ol' stinkeye. Or worse.

All that said, I'm glad it doesn't work.

Not a good way to win friends and influence people...plenty of freeware...no need to steal!

Oh dear.

I wasn't aware that this was such a faux-pas. I'm very sorry.

I figured that the freeware audition like the old freeware CEP would'nt let you save your files. This wouldn't have been much good to me.

What about the copies they have on e-bay for £1O? I guess that's a No Go aswell.

I'd like to say that all you chaps who've responded to my posts in my short time here have been very helpful and welcoming. I thankyou for that, I'd be both clueless and a thief without you!

I don't suppose people will want to help me much now!

Oh well,

I bid you an apologetic and grateful farewell,

Nathan (Flashman)

The copies they sell on eBay are typical illegal as well, eBay doesn't really watch their site very closely. You surely don't have to leave, but you surely do have to legitimize yourself by using a legal copy of software. Kristal Audio Engine is completely free, legally, and there are many less expensive apps as well.

If you need a free app., try something like Kristal. Some inexpensive alternates that some people love are Multitrack, and N-Track (free demos available).

The apps on eBay for $10.00 are a no-go, due to the license not being transferable.

Baby steps.

Anyway, you want the full support of the manufacturer in the event of a problem. There's also patches, and updates to consider. All of which you can't have with a pirate version. See the HRC menu to the right hand side of the window, and follow your nose.

HRC is a great resource for information (might actually be the best..), but keep it real.

There are so many good free VSTs that I can't imagine wanting to rip a commercial one.

Here's an article that gives tons of links:
