New cover tune - The Rooster Moans

Well, here's my slapped-together rendition of Iron & Wine's "The Rooster Moans" for anybody that cares. This is from the tribute album over at PassingAfternoon.com.

I know, I haven't been much of a reciprocating kind of music reviewer lately, and I especially dislike listening to cover tunes, but I had a lot of fun putting this together and I wanted to share. I took a complete departure from the original, and hopefully it came out OK at very least.

It was stressful but overall kinda cool to throw together a project from scratch in about 48 hours (well, maybe 24 waking hours!).

Welp, have a listen if you please:

Interesting song . I've not heard the original version so I can't really compare the two, but I like the mix on this, and the guitar sounds great as always . Is that you singing, as well ?... solid . Bongos were a nice touch . Nice one man... goin' the playlist !

I changed the link, might try it again. Not sure if it'll work either, this one is under my ftp account, and I'm not sure how the permissions are set.

Thanks a ton for listening Hue! I appreciate the compliments. It's me on everything, for better or for worse.

And you probably wouldn't recognize it from the original. I'd encourage everybody to at least give it a listen on Amazon (track #5):

Real nice Tad! I honestly like your version much better. You've got a real nice mix as well, really sounds good when you bring in the bass and percussion. Vocals are excellent, you have great voice IMO and it really fits the song well. Great job!

Hey thanks OD. Your comments are much appreciated. I've listened to this one so much that all I hear are the flaws in each track.

Its good to know that the mix doesn't sound too wacky. My philosophy lately has been "less is more". Once recorded, I use very little EQ or effects on the tracks. Just enough compression and limiting to keep things from getting out of hand, and some reverb to keep things seated. Glad to know that it seems to be working OK.

Thanks again Dan.

Hey Tad, posted in the other thread as well. I like your version as well. I do like em both, yours has a little differant flavor which makes it fresh. Very nice build up to the full band. All things are in place as well.

Hi Tadpui, It's outside my normal listening too, but I like it! Love the way after the first phrase the stereo percussion and other guitar come in. Very clear vocals, the mix is nice and uncluttered :-)
