Which card to recomend

Mostly I will only be recording guitar and vocals with the inputs, software for drum programming and use a slave midi keyboard for all the rest of my instrumentation and overdubs.

I am currently using a SB Audigy 2. I was looking at Delta 44, but no midi. I heard Audiophile 24/96 was good, also the EMU.

Any opinions?

from that list, the 2496 would be my choice...EMU is decent too from what I have heard.

I have a M-audio USB audiophile (and a delta 44, only because i record drums). Love it. Got two analog inputs, midi in/out, and a headphone amp (nice feature). I got mine for 250 but im pretty sure you can get one for 200 or less now. yeehaw

I'd say if you've got a USB port (which I assume you do) if you need the inputs go with the delta 44, and later down the road pick up either something like a radium midi controller which will go straight to usb, or a usb midi interface. Thats what I did and it's been working great

$0.02

I have the EMU PCI-0404. It has balanced 1/4" in/out L&R, RCA in/out L&R, Optical in/out, MIDI in out.

I'm S.O.L. if it comes to recording drums live in anything but a stereo mix, but I've been happily using programmed drums.

They have newer, more kicked up cards too. Just want to say that their customer service, via e-mail is stellar. They even sent me a patch to use with my BR532 via optical cable. It's a tough card to set up initially, but it's been great for me.

As I said, 2 cents worth....

Oh, yeah...$99.00. As Coco would say, No bad.

If I had the money, I'd likely go for something with more inputs IN CASE I needed to expand to drums in future.

The 1212M has ADAT I/O for a $200 (?) (US) investment. The ADAT can be used with a pre-amp such as an Behringer ADA 8000 to expand the 1212 to a 10 analog input card (use of the S/PDIF makes the "12" of the 1212M name)...

OK, I have the Delta 44 and a USB M-Audio Uno which gives me:

4 audio ins
4 audio outs (both via the Delta44)

and the Uno does for midi in/out (this is one connection of course i.e. one instrument but does my need).

if you needed 2 midi's you could go for a Duo which has 2 MIDI in an 2 MIDI out.

The Delta is a most excellent card, low latency and a nice breakout box with 1/4 jacks...ideal.

You mentioend you were using the setup for guitar and vox. Be aware there are NO preamps in the Delta and you will therefore need some kind of pre to boost guitar/vox. I use the VAMP and fire this into the Delta, as well as an M-Audio "Audio Buddy" for vocal preamp...nice pre, and with 2 channels with phantom, you cant go far wrong...

Good luck

Coco.
