Funky Jam - My First Mix

Hey All -

My friend and I have been recording some funk rock for fun and I just wanted to get some feedback from you guys on the song/mix. I'm new to home recording so any tips on recording would be great. I'm pretty happy overall except I had to fight tooth and nail to get a decent guitar sound! They still sound weak to me. Also limited to a drum machine now so sorry for the repetitive beat. Thanks for your time.

mic the acoustic!!! direct is good for live, but i hate that sound on a recording....yeha the distorted guitars are a bit weak...not very much 'presense' in the mix...sounds like there a bit too much distortion on 'em.... ya can tone down the gain for clarity. the vocals are sitting real nicely.....HAHAHAHAH "how 'bout the pink panther *****" lmao NICE! it's got a realk mike patton (bungle) feel to it.

Mic the acoustic huh? I'll give it a try. Does it just sound too twangy when recorded direct? I'll lay down the electric guitar again with less distortion and see if that gives them more punch. Thanks very much for listening and providing input.

Sounding pretty good, I'd definitley try the suggestions WYD made and also possibly put a little more lo-mid in the distorted guitar just so it sits a little better with the tone of the rest of the song.

Nice song though, I like it, definite 70's funk to it!

Thanks olddog. We are definitely trying to bring back some funk! I bumped up the lo-mid and it definitely added some much needed fullness. Thanks HRC!

Drako, very nice tune. Fresh in these days of corperate radio. I agree with WYD on the micing of the acuostic though. Try one track miced and one direct, then mix em together to get a fuller sound. That is what I do and it works great. The mic picks up some stuff the piezo or internal pick up misses.

Thanks Noize!

That is a great idea. I messed with an old acoustic track of mine and combined the mic'd and direct tracks. Sounds sweet!

Your welcome Drako, glad it worked out.

You can even try doing that say with and elecrtic bass or guitar as well. I have done it withan electric when trying to get that really twangy sound and it works great. It gets alot of the pick on the strings type sound.
