Anyone paying attention to Tom Cruise going insane?

Now, let me start by saying I am not one for celebrity gossip and crap, but my wife has always been a Tom Cruise fan, until recently anyway...

His promotion scam for War of the Worlds was to start a bogus relationship with a young actress, this young actress (Katie Holmes) is now being followed around by her Scientologist mentors, who now speak for her and such...

Then I read this www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162082,00.html which is a rather disturbing article.

I dunno, it's nothing big, it's just a wacky actor in his ivory tower controlling this young girl...

Add to that his recent comments to Matt Lawer (sp?), who is a jackass in his own right anyway, about ritalin, and publically condemming Brooke Shields for having the post-partem (sp?) issue after having her baby...

Has this guy totally flipped out, is the whole thing a publicity stunt (which is working, cuz everyone is talking about it, now even HRC), or a publicity stunt gone wrong...

I dunno, for some reason I am finding it more and more fascinating...mostly because I know this scientology is one of the worlds only "accepted" cults...mainly because of the money involved and who is involved I suppose...if that group was poor and unknown like the poeple in Waco, TX, it would likely be raided and shutdown as the cult that it is...

I don't have any books, but I have read many in full or in part. As a whole, from what I recall, much of Dianetics is based on common sense, which any semi-intelligent creature wouldn't need a book to understand...but like many cults, it gets wackier and wackier as you read further and further...

hahahaha, thats funny.

Ya know, I like Oprah cuz, as a celeb, she stays away from political grandstanding, and she does a lot of good things for the world with her efforts and money, I applaud that...that said, I was on an "at home" contract when that show aired that Tom Cruise really hardcore pushed his "love" for Katie Holmes and my wife said "come here, you HAVE to see this"...it was the most self-serving, phony, stupid publicity move I ever saw...recently at least...

Oprah should be embarrassed to be part of that stupidity.

I get the "oh, are you related to L. Ron Hubbard" alot because my last name is also Hubbard. I totally agree with dB here. Just because of who is in there, it doesn't get shut down like Waco did. I have heard it takes over $100,000 to get to a certain level and that's like at the lowest even. How can you believe in this when you have to "pay" to raise in these so called "levels". It sounds so made up from what I heard and yet these celebraties are going for it. It's wacky. Next, we should hear reports of Michael Jackson joining it. That should be the icing of the cake.

For those who aren't aware of who L.Ron Hubbard is, he was a science fiction writer.

He actually was quoted as saying "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."

And then, he did.

Agreed, he has had a couple good movies, but his acting skills were not the reason they were good...

Lamest line in movie history:

"You........complete me"

Just another ivory tower celebrity that thinks they are FAR more important to society than they really are...

shepherdsam, that site is a riot.

Never liked Cruise much...he's a bit of an ahole if ye ask me.

His new found religion proves that for sure.

As for all the cult crap he is into, man, I agree wi dB on this - any average dude should possess a relative amount of common sense and nobody needs to pay to learn aboot it...that makes NAE sense!!! :-) !

Aye, there is one born every day tho eh.

I feel that "You complete me" was a lot more powerful when Dr. Evil said it to Mini-Me.

Agreed, drugs should never be the first resort, and it's unfortunate that is what the world has come to, medicate first...healthy diet, exersize and natural remedy are "alternative medicine"...should be the other way around...but what I disagreed with is the condesending, fingerpointing methods that Sir Cruise the Wise took in this latest soapbox stance...

You are right though, it's his job to be fake :-)

Medication should not be the first resort...while I won't call anyone a "fool" for their beliefs, I certainly disagree that a doctor should be so fast to give medication if other options are available.

If you can minimize the impact of any health issue, whether physical or psychological through diet, exercise and other aspects of a healthier lifestyle, should that not be the first route?

People take medication to loose weight, get higher sex drive, beat depression (which is seriously abused today) and many other things that can be helped in many cases by simply having a healthier body...while sometimes it's the only way, I hardly think the medication-dependent society we are creating is healthy, and we already see the effects of it with the growing tolerance to anti-biotics that have been developed...

And the funny thing is, it really doesn't take that much effort in most cases to do minimal execcise and buy better food to eat, and better food is often less expensive than junk...

Aye, if ye go straight for the drugs ye leave no other options avaialble...too many docs just hand oot drugs without checking other remedies first.

That said, in the correct time/place nad situ they are required and often save lives, or at worst, enhance to a point which may not have been possible otherwise but ONLY when no other course of action is available methinks.

absolutely! exercise and health definately make a difference and can eliminate the need for medz, but in cases of OCD(which i have), Bi-polar,torrets, skitzo etc..the medz are a blessing, unfortunatly as you mentioned a diagonosis can be given out to easily.

one bi-polar disorder, heres your lithium would you like prozak with that, thank you and come again.

they are prescribed too easily. but for those that need them, they can be a lifesaver. i was one, once. there comes a point where you need direct alteration to your brain chemicals. most people do not need this, though.

I was listening to the radio this morning and they said they got a report from a good source about Tom Cruise. Course, this could be all bull-hockey for all I know.

Katie signed a contract to be with Tom Cruise. To be by his side at all times and to be in love UNTIL 10 movies are done. That is, when Katie does 10 movies. Now, that sounds made up but they also had these facts. Penelope Cruz, from the time Tom Cruise and her started their relationship, she did 10 movies and they broke up. With Nicole Kidman, after she did 10 movies, they broke up.

Now, this sounds like a great made up story and I'm not going to look into it. Tom and Nicole had kids together and everything. They said all of this was for a cover up of Tom being gay. Yeah..made up. But sounds interesting! If true, wouldn't surprise me though...
