I have been searching for a good, easy to use sampler and so far it's looking like Halion may be the one. Has anyone any opinions on this or recommendations on another sampler?

thers an awesome free one here www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Helios/ although itll only load one sample at a time.

personally having used halion for about 4 years and right up to the latest version, i find it does weird things and can be a bit frustrating. like, it wont put out sound for some reason, then it will. its kooky.

I really need a polyphonic capable sampler. I intend to use it for drums, triggered by a Roland V-drums kit.

Are you looking to use it strictly for drums, or do you want it to be more versitile?

Well, I would probably use it for other things, but my driving force at the moment is drums.

I would not use halion for drums. I find it not to be user friendly. I use it for piano, clavenet, and bass but only in song development, later I replace the tracks with real instruments. I almost always use native instruments battery for drums it is so user friendly anyone can use it. It's fast and versitile to add or change instrument maps. I think it easily beats halion for drums. Sampletank also offers up some realy good drum samples but it's not very programable.
Good luck!

Ya, dB is liking Battery as well. But both he and I are beta testing a program called DrumCore and I am like that as well right now. And I do have tons of drum sounds at my disposal but I can see this app taking a big part in my drum programing real soon.

Cool. I downloaded the demo last night. While the demo sounds are not what I'm looking for, it's usability and flexability is awesome. Thanks for the tip.
Where can I find information on DrumCore?

www.drumcore.com

The Windows version won't be released for a few weeks yet. It is currently in beta testing...it's looking great, I like it, Noize2u is loving it up...great app.

Indeed I am!!! I think it is going to be my drum app of choice for the most part. And I have more then enough drum samples and synths then I could ever use. But DC is a bit faster and more flexable so far from what I have seen.

oh for the love of God it is orange! However, if I didn't have Battery, DrumCore would be my next option. Drum 9+ gigs of samples are phenominal, even if you have another drum machine you like, the samples alone packaged with DrumCore are awesome. I have thought about using DC's samples to build a kit for Battery.

To be clear, the only reason I prefer battery is because of the extra control offered over each pad, such as adding compression and/or other effects which DrumCore does not have...yet...

My three favorite drum machines are Battery, DrumCore and Velocity (bundled with Project5 from Cakewalk). I'd take any of those three over anything I have seen to date...

I just slapped down the cash for a copy of Battery 2. Thanks for the recommendation. This is easily the best drum sampling software I have seen thus far. It's ease of use is far beyond ANYTHING else i have tried. The configurability is awesome. Thanks again guys!.

I know its Orange, I was being a twit.

Ya, Dc has some really great sounds. And an awe inspiring collection of loops and what ever else you might need. I am however a bit bummed as some of the drum sounds I would love to yank out and use in Velocity, but alas, they are compressed in what must be a proprietary format for DC. I can however export a wave of a loop and just hack them out myself. But that seems a bit lengthy.
