Thanks to all ur help i've decided to go with the MBox and ProTools combo. Thanks for the help! But I was just thinking... do I need a new soundcard or is the MBox a soundcard in itself? I assumed that the MBox replaces my current card, but I was wondering is upgrading my internal sound card would still help any...

nah don't waste you money on a new soundcard...basically you'll be using the mbox as your main soundcard for recoding, and your stock card for your normal computer sounds, mp3's ect...i like to run an out from my soundcard to my audio interface (see the spdif thread)

Yeah, the MBox IS your sound device.

also, i'm not sure about the mbox but i had a 002 and i couldn't use the interface without protools beein' open

To answer your question dB... I wanted to get something that A)Runs ProTools, because the music schools I'm applying to all run it... and B) Is affordable for me. It seemed like a perfect fit.

Also I appreciate all the help... The whole mixing process has been quite humbling for me who USED to think I was hot stuff because I can compose. It turns out that that's the easy part!
