Well for anyone who can take yet another cover (at least I just did this one :) here's an entirely acoustic cover of Norwegian Wood by some group called umm.. I think it was the Beetles or something kind of bug.

Don't pay to much attention to the vocals I was mainly working on a good acoustic sound.

Thanks for listening.

Thanks Bleak. It was all done on my 12 string. I'm planning on picking up another 6 string at some point. It would be nice to have both. :)

I'm getting ready to do another acoustic song I have and got sidetracked and did this instead but at least I was still working on the acoustic sound. :)

Not to bad at all. A differant touch indeed, I do so like the way you get your harmonies to blend in. And the 12 string sounds pretty good as well indeed.

Olddog..

From one of the biggest beatles fans on the planet - this is bloody excellent. I love these guitars and it just makes me wanna get me a 12 string...man, I'd love one of them for sure.

Vocals are good too and harmonies fit well.

Another top effort from you bud.

Cheers

From one biggest Beatles fan to another, thanks Coco! :) When I quit playing back in the 80's I gave my 6 string away, but I couldn't part with my 12 string. It doesn't play quite as well as it used too, but it's still in pretty good shape and I do love the sound of it.

OK, then from yet another huge Beatles fan...this is awesome! The layered 12 string sound that you get is incredible. Vocals are spot on! Lennon & McCartney all over again!

Great work!

Make that 4 big Beatles fans. I generaly shy away from peoples covers of Beatles tunes, as they usualy try to make a major change to something to make it feel like thier own. In my opinion, most Beatles tunes are near perfect. Not one note too many or too few. ;-) That said, your version is great. Faithful where it counts. The structure and melody. The twelve string sounds cool on this peice.

Very nice OD :-)

Ya know, my wife was saying when she listened to it that if I was going to do these why didn't I change it and I told her basically the same. If i could come up with a better idea for the song than they did I probably would, but that ain't happened yet. <G> Besides it is different I told Her, I don't sound like them LOL.

There are songs that can be improved upon, and there are those that can't and IMO the Beatles songs fall into the latter.

Thanks philthyone!

Agreed Olddog...I guess if you can even come close to mirroring an original Beatles track and NOT ruin it this is the same as taking a track from anyone else and changing it altogether!!!!

Because, you cannot improve on perfection ! Also, if you can attain the same level of harmonies the moptops done, youre doing well.

Your effort, my man, is darn good. I dont like BEatles covers cause the person doin the cover (USUALLY) makes an *** of it which I consider sacrilige of the highest order. Yourself, and Guitar Jim have managed it so far to ma ears...so - good work.

Now, we should sort a big old cover of something cool by the Beatles where we can all chip something in. Thats oen for the future (I think Jim said he was organisign such a thing this year)...

Cheers

Coco.

P.S. Id LOVE to do Revolution...love to hear it with that SG of yours OD...

Yeah...I have been thinking about a collection of Beatles' covers by HRC-ers. I'm keepin' it on the back burner for now.

This is great stuff!

Coco, Jim, dB, I'm ready anytime you are! I was thinking not long ago of doing Revolution, sounds like a perfect one too do. Lets get the ball rollin'. :)

"I Want You/She's So Heavy" is a great one too, one of my favorites, but IMO a very difficult one to do.

Nice job OD. I concur that you voice sounds pretty good to me. You have a gordon lightfoot thing there that fits well with acoustic.

I too am a Beatles fan, and have learned a bunch of their songs through the years. Great material for the timeframe (especially), as well as great material in general, which is still great stuff today.

I learnt 'Because' years ago in my youth, and can still play it. It's a real pain on the hands, but you don't find many people who attempt it. I'd be interested in tracking it, but can't right now until I get some equipment issues out of the way.

thanks much pjk. I used to be able to play "Because", but I can't even remember the chords any longer and it wouldn't do me any good if I could cause I couldn't sing it now. <G> Great song though.

I think thats the first time anyones ever mentioned Gordon Lightfoot in the same sentence with me LOL, but thinking back on some of His songs, I guess I could hear a little of it there. :)

cheers,

Dan

OD, I covered She's so Heavy for about a year in the last cover band I was in (YEARS ago) and yeah, it's tricky to get the hang of, but use you're in the pocket it comes off pretty good. I just like the bass part, it's pretty groovy...

Im up for Revolution...BIG TIME..my all time favourite Beatles song it is.

As for who does what...I'll do whateva...I dont think the tune needs chaning other than heavier, bit like when McCartney went solo live with Dave Gilmour and the likes a while back...

Anyways, COUNT ME RIGHT IN....

Sounds like a plan coco.

As for who does what we can hammer that out.

We could use a couple rythm guitars + the lead/backing guitar, we can always double that as well. So basically we can all do guitar parts.

Decide on vocals: either like we did Happy Xmas, or one do the lead vocal and then the others do the backing vocals

drums: I think I can do the drums to this one.

Bass: dB?

Just use mp3's during the construction phase, then when all the parts are done we can post the wav's and each of us can make a mix of it.

Hey man, that was really frikkin' good...and I'm also a huge Beatles fan, and also tend to not like covers of their stuff.

The guitar work is exquisite! Nice and full and it kicks you in the ears, but then makes sweet love to them afterwards.

I'd think a collection of Beatles covers by HRCers would be a very interesting set of songs! I used to do a pretty decent rendition of "Ticket to Ride" and "You Can't Do That"...hmm...wonder where those mp3s went to...

thank you very much thermo for the kind words.

I'm with you far as Beatles covers most of them I don't like. I'm that way with most covers really, in most cases I think the artist did who originally did it, did it the best way but thats just me. :)

There are a few such as Aerosmith's cover of Come Together, and I've grown to like Joe Cockers version of Little Help From my Friends, but mostly the ones I do like stay true to the original. There's a group on SC the Pillbugs, that did an outstanding version of "Oh Darling".

I do it just because it's fun, it's good vocal training/practice, and most of the songs are simple, and quick to do. :)

If you find those mp3's I'd love to hear them.
