stuart,

The roland gk-3b is a hex synth pickup, its not a typical pickup, are you looking to get into midi bass? or replace your regular pickups.? if your replacing your regular pickups then you dont want the gk-3b! The gk-3b has a 13 pin out that usually goes to a guitar synth/midi interface like a roland gr20,gr30,gr22,gi20 or the vg-88 (which I think is more guitar related than bass.) you will need a midi interface/synth to use the gk-3b there are other brands of guitar synths out there besides roland. like axion

I have the gr-33 and use the gk-2a pickup on my strat. its alot of fun! i can play the organ on my guitar.

also if you are going the midi route you may want to look into other pickups, like RMC piezo as they track way better than the magnetic hex pickups.

hope this helps

so realy, i'd be better off buying new pick ups!? so what should i get? my bass is an aria pro wild cat series 2 and was new when i bought it 17 years ago. it still has it's original pick ups but the poles have rusted. how has pick up design changed, and what should i go for now? please help. is there any way of emulating that 'stingray' sound, even if it is a music man?! long shot i know, but worth asking

Maybe try looking at the forums over at www.talkbass.com There seem to be lots of gurus over there, and I"m sure that a search will turn up lots of conversations about bass pickups.

Get a decent set of active pickups and your bass sound will improve substantially. Decent set of EMG's will make a big diff in that bass.
