Oct 22, 2004 11:44 am cheap computer mic into sound disaster card recorded in windows sound recorder. I have this thick leather binder type thing which I dropped on a hard wood floor, and since the mic sucks it created an awesome tight snare sound, a jug of juice with only a little left made for an excellent shaker, a computer-case cover with a towel over it made a neat tom, and just throwing stuff around my room made some cool sounds

Oct 22, 2004 01:59 pm That's cool. I wish I had the energy to do that sort of recording. I think an aluminum can (like a soda) rattled inside of a tic/steel can (like canned spinach) makes a really cool sound, but I doubt I'll actually end up recording it. Oh well.

Oct 22, 2004 03:13 pm One thing that I always thought was absolutely phenomenal was the sound engineer on the game The Journeyman Project talking about how they put a microphone in the trap of a toilet to get the ambient sounds of an underwater installation and such. Some of that stuff makes me wish I was willing to be more adventurous with my SM57s...
Loki, I've got to say, some of those sounds 'sound' (har har har) awesome. I can see you having a lot of fun with them.

Oct 23, 2004 05:40 am theres useful sounds everywhere, its just taking the time to listen and capture them. for example, we've got an aluminium bin that makes a brilliant hi hat noise when ya shut the lid - awesome!

Oct 23, 2004 01:24 pm I am so glad to you guys having some fun with this. Ya gotta remember me bieng the old fart I am this of course is not new to me.
Flame try flushing the john and record it from differant angles, then twist the daylights outa them with some differrant effects and you get a whole new pad or ambiant sounds for the synth.
I once made a whole drum kit with nothing but stuff in and on the car.
Loki, try some differant reverbs to get a snappy tail on the snare sounds.
And dont forget to try blending differant sounds together to see what might give an differant attack or tail to another sound.

You dont mind if its kinda reverby do ya? I dont think its really heavy verb but just nice thin film of it.

Feb 10, 2005 10:28 pm I found that tapping a fork on a coffee cup sounds like drum sticks being hit together when recorded.
