I HATE UPS!!!!

To start it off, something happened to my DM-24 while it was at my messy compadre's place. so I sent it in to get it fixed (good thing i got the extended warranty) and they fixed it and sent it back. when it got here the UPS guy was like," ahhh... the box has a hole in it." in his caveman voice.. well that was an understatement, the box had a gouge the size of my upper torso. SO I eagerly get my prized posession out of its temperary cage and into the light of my dwelling and what do I find? I has been scarred and horrably disfigured from that "hole". The company that fixed it put a $3k insurance bill on it and said that they would send an inspecter out to look at it this next week. It still works, but this is my baby... along with all my other recording gear, and if I were to try and sell it on Ebay I would not get 1/4 out of it that I could have gotten before. So I hope that they just cut me a check and then I can go get another and eventually get over this life damaging experience.

sorry, just had to vent there, I figured someone in here would understand my frustration.

I feels you pain brother...I feeels your pain!

I gag every time I say that. I actualy worked for a company that advocated uttering that cliche' gag a maget phrase to customers.

I don't pretend to know UPS structure, but in our area they have done a lot to uprgrade the drop off center and the local drivers. I now interface with humans in that facility. I have recognized one poor practice and that is at the main distribution centers. One of my employees worked for UPS (extra cash) as a part time truck loader. He and other crack heads who showed up or didn't per crack density currently in system, faced 5 times the load they could shove into semi's daily for their two hour "pitch @#$&" sessions. He would occasionaly tell me of his escapades with UPS and I promptly stopped using UPS.

Best of luck getting through the finger pointing circus in getting your claim processed. In all sincerity I do hope you can get resolve.

yeah I've known a number of people doing loading for UPS... if a box jams the top of the conveyor they send someone up to kick it out, etc. Granted I used to get a lot...well pieces of... of postal mail in a little plastic bag saying "sometimes accidents happen"

Havn't had the chance to use them to any great extend hybridtoad. Did do a lot of expedited shipping with a medical company for a number of years. Found Fed-X much more reliable in all aspects than OOOps. Definately better than a number of third world countries that I have worked with. I know of a few oxygen generators that are sitting on the bottom of oceans because the incumbant political coo did not "authorize" the purchase of local hospitals. One generator I sent to Kahakastan got a ride across the tundra on a WW1 vintage Russian made flat bed. I had to go in and put that one together again myself. That was an education.

Bummer, man . That sucks 'bout your gear.., give 'em hell ! My co-writer worked there for years, and he told me of this 'place' where some things get sent, called "small-sort"... if they couldn't understand the label, or a shipping code didn't make sense, they'd send it there in the most hideous ways .(yeesh !) I always thought it was a good name for a band, Small Sort . heh heh

Dang Walt.. That is too cool! sounds like a movie to me.

Yeah, that would be a cool name, give em all those kid sized versions of instruments, and then the drummer could have a kid sized set and some giant oversized 3 ft sticks... That would make for a cool video, or at least part of one, eh?

Oh Forty!

If it is a lot of bulk you might want to look into a couple of over road long haul companies. If you are going to do this often it is definately worth a look. Put together a reusable crate. Use the shock feet and such. You can also demand air ride trailors. If the bulk is there it will also be cheeper than oops. To really insure that you can collect on insurance the best is to go to a shipping store. If the equimpent is worth over a grand they will want to double box. Up goes prices. A computer from Michigan to Kansas is about $200 for ups double boxed insured for a G. There are also specialty carriers that do a very nice job for not much more than long haul. Check your options before consigning your babies over to oops!

i used the UPS price calculator to get a figure.

3 guitars, a computer, my triton, a tv and some misc stuff. it all works out to 250 or something, for ground transport. and thats with 2 G of insurance on the triton and a G on the computer and appropriate insurance on the other stuff. the insurance is only a buck per hundred dollars or something.

i checked everything. i'd drag a trailer behind my jeep, but NO ONE RENTS TRAILERS to soft top vehicles! that kills the easiest way.

renting trucks or hitching a ride with movers runs from 700-1000 bucks.

UPS is the only thing making sense to someone of meager means like lil old me. :(
