monitors cutting out

hi all... I have a problem with my monitoring set-up. Often the audio drops out, from one or both speakers. If I crank up the volume, the signal will pop back on, but when I return to normal monitoring volume, it inevitably cuts out again. The problem is worse at low volumes.

I'm using Yamaha NS-10's. The amplifier is a Samson Servo-260, (130 Watts). I've tried plugging a CD player directly into the amplifier, and had the same problem, so I suspect the problem is with the amplifier, and not with the equipment I have plugged into it. When I first set up my studio, I didn't have this issue - it developed after a few years.

Can anyone help? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a powered mixer doing the same thing. I'm suspecting the power section of the mixer. It's pretty old so I'm sure that's it.

That said, deevide and konker! eliminate other possiblities until you only have one possibility left. That will be it.

If it only happens on one side, switch the monitors to see if it follows the monitor. Also switch the cables like Flame said, just only do one switch-a-roo at a time so you can eliminate possibilities.

Good luck (i'd guess the amp is fritzing out)

Always start the troubleshooting at the cheapest fix...cables...
